Looking to buy block hours for NIGHT PIC in southern Ontario

Post by questionpilot »

Hey folks,

If anyone has a contact for a private aircraft with an insurance plan that covers other than owner pilots, and who wants to help me out, send me a PM.

If that fails then I will be going to a flight school, so if you know of cheaper rates, feel free to PM as well.

Also if anyone has any ideas for the hours as well (ie. not actually doing the hours and just writing it in the logbook :), fly max endurance in a Diamond).... PM

Just trying to get ATPL requirements, 20 hours of Night PIC left. If only those blood sucking flight schools would have just done night PIC in training... sigh...

This sounds like a lot of poor ass planning on your part. Unfortunately you're not the only dude out there suddenly realising he needs a bunch of night time close to the LONGEST DAY OF THE YEAR.

Yes, it was some school's fault that you didn't get your ass going to get some night time back in the day. Whatever. I managed to do a ton of night PIC during my commercial training, so have a lot of other people here. What was your excuse?

Which schools do this? We should make a list so people don't go to them. Wasn't posted to be helpful to the OP, his problem will be helpful though if it serves as a warning to others who may come.

Question

I started reading your post allready thinking about a few ideas and a possible lead.
However since I am one of those "blood sucking" flight instructors you seem to think are entirely responsible for your present predicament, my interest in helping you went away when I got to the last paragraph.....

Selkirk for one. Top notch program but at a geographical disadvantage for night flying. All of your night stuff has to be done out of Selair in YXX which doesn't lend itself to convenient night PIC buildup.

ATPL requirements, 20 hours of Night PIC left
We do a couple of these every year:

http://smithsfallsflyingclub.com/
The flight training unit at Smiths Falls / Montague operates two Cessna 172 aircraft, pictured above, certified for VFR and IFR training. The airport offers a safe and efficient learning environment for flight training. Ground delays and long transits to training areas associated with larger airports are not problem here.

The flight instructors at the Smiths Falls Flying Club have many years of instructing experience gained on a wide variety of aircraft and roles including civil, military, aerobatic, instrument flight and international operations. They will do everything they can to make your training worthwhile and enjoyable.
Click on the "Contact Us" link on the main menu to contact instructors in the Training Unit.

Student rates
$120/hr plane rental
That's wet. New paint, new interior, new radios.

Inconvinient and not allowed are two different things though. Our Op insists that there was no night PIC allowed in his program which makes one wonder if he ended up with one of those day restricted CPLs. I seem to remember encountering some Selkirk students on a long time building trip out on the flats here, are they not allowed to do any of that time at night?

I know! A guy could almost forget that a bloodsucking school is offering it. Hopefully this guy won't wear the Colonel's good will thin.

In general I have nothing but good things to say about Selkirk College... Unfortunately the night building is the biggest down fall... and even if YCG was night certified, you wouldn't catch me flying night cross country in the mountains...

I'm in the same boat where I need a few hours of night PICXC for the ATPL... then again nothing I want to fly requires an atpl...

Wow some of you fellas are really sensitive eh? Learn to take a joke.

I went to Sault College and I tried to get night pic with the hours they gave us but the school and instructors at the time resisted because that would mean someone would have to work at night. It would have been nice to get them all done back then, and I think it is a fairly regular problem for the folks flying floats.

But all in all Avcanada delivered and I have many responses with good prices from flight clubs in the YYZ area. So, calm down and have some dip. Thanks again.

Well part of what is making them sensitive is that they will have to work at night.
This time of year it starts at around 23:15 local time.

Probably jumping the gun on saying that you shouldnt go to Soo. I am very happy the way I left that place. It was just their decision not to allow getting the night pic out of the way. It could change if one of the blood suckers decides to do what he is meant to do, stay up all night and sleep during the day. Hah jokes, calm down fellas.

I wouldn't say don't go to Selkirk either, since they are quite apart from the traditional puppy mill school. Get a job instructing and your night cross country PIC will be done in a flash.
