No internal references.
Is it possible to get in at Westjet without internal references?
If so, how?

Did you just apply online and get a call?
Re: No internal references.
Pretty much yes. Another friend of mine got in without an internal. He was a good guy but his boss was forced to lay him off because of corporate downsizing. The boss worked his contacts for him and ended up calling someone at WJ saying he had a great guy who he was forced to lay off.cj555 wrote:Bede wrote:I got hired without internal references. Re: No internal references.
Yea. I have 2 friends that got hired on by Westjet without internal references. This goes with AMEs and pilots.
I applied multiple times and never got a call. I have bad luck. hahaha. But I am over that.

Do you know what are the differences between your resume and your two freinds who got hired? Was it just that they had more TT/PIC?
What about other differences: IE where did you do your training? What companies have you worked for etc?
Perhaps they are looking for something particular on a resume that your freinds happened to have. I'd be interested to find out what.
Re: No internal references.
My understanding is that they widespread their hiring to keep it fair for all the applicants but there are several companies of which they seem to have consistent success rate with hence why they may select to pick candidates from those companies with a bit more consistency? I don't know for sure. I'm not hiring expert and have absolutely no idea if this plays a factor into their consideration process. But one can only think if they have hired people from company x and their pilot's seem to always struggle, that they may not be so interested in hiring from there as often? Versus companies that are SOP oriented, stick to them, and have a training program that reflects a positive outcome may be of more interest to WestJets hiring practices? Again don't quote me... just a thought.cj555 wrote:acidgambit wrote:Yea. I have 2 friends that got hired on by Westjet without internal references. This goes with AMEs and pilots.

Like anything else in this industry, I believe keeping a good head on your shoulders and doing your utmost to be the best team member you can be goes a long way in this industry! If not recognized by the likes of WestJet then I'm sure another career prospective will open up that may be right for you. It really is a two way street with WestJet and the online exposure Dave projects really highlights that it's not just them wanting you, it's about you wanting to work there as well so that you aren't complaining a few months in! And I really think they are looking for archives like this in the interview process.
All the best!

Re: No internal references.
Hi, I have a question for those who have recently been hired at Westjet; I was wondering how long it took to get the first phone call after submitting or updating their application. I have been applying online since 2009; back then I did not have the required experience, but I recently reapplied on the new website and now with 4,500hrs and 2,000 hrs of jet time what are my chances of getting a call? I have no internal references, but I would love to go to Calgary for a visit if there is any way I can do that without someone to show me around. Thanks, any helpful info is much appreciated!
Re: No internal references.
If you're around Calgary it doesn't hurt to stop by and see if any member of the recruitment team has time to give you a quick tour. They prefer sponsors these days as I think they have been loaded with people always coming by? But I know for sure that they are a type of management in which if they have the time to speak with you, they will!
Not so advantageous if you're not around YYC though as you may need some persistence before you catch them on a good time!
All the best,
Loopa!

Re: No internal references.
I've walked into their head office, resume in hand only to be told that they do not accept drop ins. The receptionist was very nice tho! Keep in mind the volume of resumes & drop ins they receive. Probably thousands per month.loopa wrote:If you're around Calgary it doesn't hurt to stop by and see if any member of the recruitment team has time to give you a quick tour.
Re: No internal references.
I can understand the response you got to be honest, like you said thousands of drop ins would occur otherwise right? I was merely more suggesting that they are a type of recruitment personnel that if they have time they will stop and chat with you. It's just about catching them on a good time. I think the visit is more so for you to find out more about the company to see if you see yourself working there. Obviously if every one shows up with a resume in hand to drop off it will most likely get rejected.
Hope that clarifies what I was saying! Good luck man!

Sometimes when I'm airside I'll stick a resume under the windshield wiper of one of their 37's - but nothing has come of it......yet!
