It's official, July 19th I do believe is the actual retire date. He will be missed for his contribution to aviation in NWO.

TC's site list these names as CAME in Thunder Bay:
JOHNSON, RW
REMUS, JOHN LEONARD
THIBERT, MARK ROGER
TRUSDALE, TERRY N.W.

Does anyone know what these doctors charge?

Yours was $40? He must of really hated you.

That being said, I guess it's time we join the rest of Canada and pay a ridiculous sum of money to a TC approved rip off artist.

How old is Dr. Lower. I had a medical with the guy in 1972, and he was by no means young even then?

He was 80 the last time I saw him Doc, and that was back in 04...so gotta be pushin 90! He signed off my medical for about 5 years of my career, and is truly someone who dedicated his life to aviation. He will be missed by MANY. Happy retirement Dr. Lower!! You sure earned it!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

He's been doing my medicals since 1988!! Usually cost me about $35.00, sometimes 40...never was a set number. Guess it was going to happen eventually. Last I heard he was being evaluated by TC to be able to continue as an aviation medical examiner, something they automatically do at a certain age I'm told.

This is gonna suck big time. I went for a drivers medical and it cost me over $200.00, can't imagine what they will charge for a Cat med!

Aren't the states working on self-declaring Cat 3 medicals now?

When I did my first medical with him, I assumed it would be like a normal doctor's office with a receptionist, booking desk, etc. Nope. Just him doing it all himself. When it was time to pay the $40, I said "debit." He said they didn't have debit and instead asked how much I had in cash. I had a grand total of $5. "No problem" he says, and that was good enough for him!

Try THAT with other CAME's and see how it goes!

He signed my medical many times. I can remember asking how much to which he replied $40.00. When I went to pay he saw that was all I had in my wallet and gave it back to me saying he would collect on my next medical. He never did.....

Amazing contribution to aviation in Canada and will definitely be missed!

My medicals are in December, and when I was making huge coin as an FO in YQT he refused to take my money and told me to buy something for my wife for Christmas. The next year I had to twist his arm to take $20 (I was a millionaire in the left seat), and finally $40 the year after that. After that the company finally started paying for medicals and he finally took my money without a fight. He truly was a pilot's doctor...loved to chat and always had a smile for you. He will be missed!

Great guy. He graduated medical school in 1952, so do the math. Assuming he finished medical school at 26, he'd be 86.

We should get him a retirement gift. Any idea's?

He told me that he had bought a nice single malt to share with a friend.
A man like him must have some nice friends.A very kind humourous man.
I do hope he has a very long and healthy retirement as he has earned it.
Perhaps a nice single malt for him and his friends would be a small gift for such a great man.

That's not bad, certainly "reasonable"...

I didn't pay that much, but it was close to $300 with an ECG. TC only.

Dr. Lower will be missed. I spoke with him at the end of June. When Laurie told him "but you can't retire" he responded that he did not have a choice; it was the College of Physicians....he did not say anything else.

Do not know the whole story but he it was evident that he did not want to go.

Thanks for everything Dr. Lower.

This IS a public forum, and not only is it my opinion, but that of TC Medical, that I was misdiagnosed with a condition. This person (I hesitate to call him Doctor) changed the status of my medical without informing me. When I asked, he stated I had a condition that was nigh on impossible for me to have. The TC Doctor agreed and reversed the so-called Doctor's decision with a phone call and a follow up eye exam with another Doctor.

I will say though, that I was charged $320 for this advice, not under $300, as I previously stated.

It's not slander or libel if it's the truth. I'm just trying to steer people away from over priced medical services, who's advice may be suspect.

People can do much better elsewhere.
