ATPL Question...

(c) 100 additional hours cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command or 200 hours as co-pilot or any combination thereof, with flight time calculated in accordance with section 421.10. Flight time as pilot-in-command may be part of the 250 hours pilot-in-command flight time specified in paragraph (a); and
(amended 2005/12/01; previous version)

So I have about 150 x/c PIC, my 25 night x/c PIC....and over 1000 hours acting as SIC...all "cross-country" (on two crew aircraft). Does this satisfy the above?

I'm not 100% clear on why this rule is in the requirements :?

Why does TC say 250 hours PIC....in that, 100 x/c....then require 100 additional hours, in paragraph (c)

The short answer is they dont...
You need ADDITIONAL X-Country time of 100 hours.. it can be included in your 250 PIC. If you cant do that, then you need to use your cojoe time on a 2.1 basis to make up the shortfall. At least that is my understanding.

Now, because I expect this thread will probably generate in the order of 372 more posts answering your question , I would like to add that the good news is the ATPL requirments are being changed so that it will no longer be neccessary to figure out how to get them with the absolute bare minimums...I understand a proposed amendment will waive the night x-country requirement, if you have ever seen a plane in the dark.. And the cross country requirement may be satisfied if your drive to the airport is over 2kms.. No longer will you need to attend the indepth learning courses held on the weekend before you write your exams if you have a diploma from a recognized flight college. Logbooks will no longer have to be certified and riding around with your buddy in the right seat will count as PIC time if you can correctly name the plane you flew in.. I understand also that TC does not think the changes will actually make a difference in the number of new ATPLs issued,

You can meet the XC requirements, yes.
If two hundred of your 1000 FO time is PIC US no pax, signed off by your CP and in your ops specs, then you may meet the PIC requirements.

It sound like the total time requirement for you would be:
[1500- (200 Pic. + ~50 dual)] X 2
Therefore [1250 X 2] since it is FO time you are logging now.

JC, where does the "no pax" come from? You can do PICUS with pax

Sorry, it's either in our ops spec or ops manual, I forget which. I'm old. And I got my ATPL now

What JC is refering to is that in the PICUS program (for our company, as stated in the Operations Manual), for the candidate to occupy the left seat, while acting as Pilot In Command Under Supervision, there must be no paying passengers on board the aircraft. However, you can still credit time in the program while occupying the right seat.
