Skyjet now requires you to sign a 3 THOUSAND DOLLAR bond for GROUND SCHOOL. Can you believe it.
This is getting really bad. When will something be done. Something has to give or break.

Must be a terrific ground school! Vintage Wings only charges 250 for non members for an initial Spifire Groundschool, which comes with coffee, two days of lunches, cockpit checkout, hero shot and grad certificate!

But JMack just to answer your question, its a company in eastern Canada. Base head office in Quebec city... They operate B200 and king air 100 navajos and the 1900D.

Why would anyone want to sit in the right seat of a single pilot airplane -- it only means one thing to me - the company is too cheap to maintain their airplanes or even worse -- the guy in the left seat can't handle single pilot IFR -- who would want to work under those conditions ---- for me - sh1t can the f/o and give me room for more fuel ---

Not to deflect from the theme/topic but here goes. There are many reasons why they would operate a "single pilot" machine two crew. Contract requirements(SK has them for court party and mine flights on PA31, Be58 etc), the aircraft is not fitted with a functioning auto pilot for SPIFR(Metro2), the loading and docking require an extra hand(ie DHC6). Mostly the second pilot is there to increase the daily hours flown IFR from 8 max to 14. I could go on but grow weary from turkey.

Of course but a cabin class twin - there is no way a customer, who is safety minded, should allow any employee to sit in one of those -- as for the twin Otter -- load master comes to mind -- maybe 8 hours is better than 14 certainly a reduction is on the horizon -- - I'm of the opinion that a well equipped aeroplane with all the tools is a far safer platform than sticking a under trained, under paid, bonded pilot in an airplane what might not even have all flight and navigation information on both panels -- don't use a warm body to reduce equipment -- if an aircraft is going to operate with 2 pilots make it to that standard --

Lots of customers out there are looking at price as a deciding factor. Customers can easily measure price, but how do they measure safety without significant research?

That's great for new types. However, thnk about how many thousands of legacy aircraft are operating in Canada.

Well, Slaveboy, if all the ding dongs out there stopped signing these bonds with a smile on their face...maybe these companies would realize that no one is willing to sign and lower the bonds.

The answer to this thread is straight and simple...sleezeball operations bond people BECAUSE THEY CAN...no matter the bond, there are 15 people willing to step up and sign off their first born to be given the PRIVILEGE of flying an airplane (please note the sarcasm).

In other words, stop signing anything and everything.

If a street vendor in Mexico can screw you out of your money he will...SAME THING.

Stop signing!! We're professionals! You young pilots have spent the better portion of an undergrad degree getting your licences. How many electrical engineers PAY their employer to work for them? How many engineers sign a note that lets the company chase them down for $$$ just because the job is not as described and they need to move on? In the rest of the world the professionals are treated as such. Maybe it's about time our industry got to enjoy the same respect.

Perhaps. But, an auto pilot can "fly". Right seat meat, without (and sometimes with) proper instrumentation, sometimes can't! In an aircraft designed for ONE pilot, give me the auto pilot, over the 200 pounds of bonded ballast, EVERY time. In an aircraft with proper right seat equipment, I'll take BOTH.
As far as increasing the the hours flown IFR from 8 to 14....are you people insane?
As far as customers shopping for price? The north is littered with Walmart shoppers! Ya gets what ya pays for.
