Halifax, June 4 (AP): A British Virgin Airlines jet was diverted and landed safely in Halifax on Friday under Canadian military escort after the aircraft indicated a hijacking was in progress.
Airline and US Homeland Security officials later said they had been in contact with the pilots and there was no hijacking.
The Boeing 340 was en route from London's Heathrow Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, when the aircraft began emitting code 7500, which indicates a hijacking is in progress.
The jetliner touched down safely just before noon.
Canadian military officials confirmed that two CF-18's from Bagotville, Quebec, were sent to intercept the flight.
Silly AP.. suprised they didn't call it an MD-340
Funny I read in one US paper that the jet was sent to a remote location in Canada. I thought Halifax was close to the TCH.Mig29 wrote:i just think it s funny how 'they' send all the potential threats/trash to Canada, when the flight itinenary had nothing to do with us here
just in case they don't blow up one more thing over there, will let Canada eat it

Is anyone else annoyed that all the media is reporting the use of code 7500? I mean obviously it isn't that hard to find out about it if a terrorist really wanted to know, but is it really adding to the story in any way? Does the general public care about the specific number?
The whole purpose of that code is to notify of a hijack without being obvious about it. Why are they making it easier for the bad guys?

Which leads me to think that, it's odder to have only one mode of commutes, to say what's up.duplicate2 wrote:Is anyone else annoyed that all the media is reporting the use of code 7500?
