KLN-90B

Post by duplicate2 »

Anyone have or know of a desktop (PC) simulator for the KLN-90B GPS? The only thing I could find was for an -89 and it seems pretty different.

There isn't one from Bendix/King. I contacted them about this a year ago and was told no. They sent me a video about transitioning to IFR approach mode from enroute mode, but that's about all there is.

I was also unable to locate any third-party simulators for the 90B.

Funny you should ask...

I spent half an hour looking for the same thing this afternoon with no success. KLN-89 is the only thing that comes... "close"

Do any of you use the KLN-90B? What is your opinion of it?

I use it and believe all of their manuals are online. If I get a chance I will send you the link.

The unit is fairly easy to use. I have been using the KLN 90B for the last 5 years and know it very well. If you have a question send me a PM.

Thanks Joe, I do already have access to the manuals. I was just looking for something to play around with to practice, I'm more familiar with the Garmins.

Thanks anyway guys.

I am sure that Permieter Academy is using it still in their MIFR training. When I was there, it was mandatory to learn the KLN-90, and we actually got some certification upon completion?

Get in touch with the school, and maybe they'll send you a lillte ground school booklet...its like a little manual. Its not something too fancy, but its a start....and I got to say, most of the content relates to AIP and CAP chart photocopying  , so don't get too excited...

but you never know, maybe they got an updated version

Check to see if the unit will receive sufficient signal when parked in the hangar. In the summer sometimes with the hangar doors open they will run OK.
Usually if the airplane is hangared or down for maintenance an opportunity exists to use an installed unit for training. I have seen a portable tray for bench running the KLN90B used for training as well, but you need a spare reciever and database.
