Ifr schools. (Cornwall or other)
Hi there long time reader and first time poster.
I am finally looking for a school to do my multi and the ifr at. I am really interested in the program at Cornwall aviation. I have searched the forms and a lot of the info on them is out dated. I am looking for some current info good or bad on them. As I am sure there is new instructors there.
Also if anyone feels there is a better school out there that would be nice to hear.
Thanks and I do understand everyone's experiences are different, but I am just trying to do all the research I can before I spend 10-20 g on a school.

I'll give you a +1 for Cornwall. I completed my multi with them this summer and was very happy with the training.
I'm not personally starting the IFR right away, but when I do, it'll probably be with them. There's great facilities elsewhere as well, but I just thought I'd mention to you that I had no problems with the school and recommend to others.

Take in consideration Lachute Aviation also. Strongly recommended.

You should take the time to visit each of the schools in the area and to ask lots of questions. Cornwall does a good job, but in my experience, both Ottawa Flying Club and Ottawa Aviation Services (located at Ottawa International Airport), do an equally good job for different reasons. They also have an advantage in being located at the Ottawa Airport, is busy controlled airspace. This is a training benefit.

Cornwall is good. The british guy is good, the austrian guy is not so good all he did was bitch about canada, and the DFTE is good too, plus they have a red bird sim
St Andrews (Harv's) you are just a number and they cant wait to get rid of you, unless you speak Chinese. They had many cocky, mouthy instructors, and the DFTE is not the best. They do some charter work like once a month in there Seneca or whatever and walk around like they are gods gift to aviation. only reason i went there is b/c i didnt have time to get to cornwall and they also have a red bird sim.
And I have heard nothing but bad stuff about Perimeter, like guys driving all the way to YWG from Red Lake on the weekend (having worked all week) and the all planes being double booked or broken down. hard to get a flight test done there too etc etc. But im told the people are sharp.

My experience was excellent in Cornwall. You complete your training quick and I finished under what they quoted me. They have many experienced instructors and you will find one that suits you best. There was a student there while I was there, working on his mifr, and he had started in Ottawa in their college program. He mentioned he was taking forever to get completed and that's why he changed schools. I don't know anything about Lachute...Hope this helps.
