Liking a lot the new WJ 737 bird
It does not have an entertainment system built in, but flying on one brought the "old days" style of travel where we could talk to family members in much quieter cabin. For folks that prefer to "turn off" they rent out the tablets with some entertainment.
I haven't tried one of the tablets yet so can't comment on quality.
Does anybody know what engines did WJ pick with the new birds? On the take off the engines have that intake blade (almost like a prop) sound that I associate with the Airbus.

The prop sound is pretty much any wide chord fan engine. It's the sound of the fan blade tips breaking the sound barrier. Used to be just RB211s on the Tristars and 757s, but now pretty much every engine has them. The CFM 56 7Bxx are the only choices for the 737, and I would imagine the different dash numbers are just different thrust ratings or detail changes.
I flew WestJet last month down to LAX for the first time since the -200 days. I didn't bother with the TV screens 'cause the programming sucks and they look awful. I only looked at them to confirm that my heart being pulled into my stomach was indeed because we were too fast at 10,000.
The kids of course latched onto them. Kind of a shame in a ways.... but then again they have flown in light aircraft their whole lives so the view out the window wasn't exactly thrilling for them.

Prefer to watch a movie on an iPad personally. Now if only there was some way to plug in the charger, that would be great. Nice leg room though.

The 737s all have the cfm56 (-22 for the 600, -24 for the 700, -27 for the 800). There's a big difference in sound between a reduced thrust takeoff and a full rated takeoff. That might have been what you noticed.
I agree. Now if only there was some way to plug in the charger, that would be great.
