Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
Perhaps if DaveP has a moment or other WestJet friends.
Received a recruitment email stating they are unable to consider my application at this time. I have been trying for 5 years to get a shot at an interview. Currently working for a large Canadian operator. Thought I had crossed my T's and dotted my I's experience wise. Any suggestions??
Canadian ATPL. From the West. Currently living and based in YYZ.
A310, CRJ 100/200/900, DH8 100/300, Metroliner...
TT 7700+
JET 2400+ Heavy JET 1800
PIC 2200+
Northern ops, commuter ops, large regional ops, International ops...
I'll keep up my persistence...still the best job in the country I think!

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
Westjet is not about experience or what you know nearly as much as who you know. If you "really" want that Westjet job, get a part time there and try and get seen positively and get to know some of the pilots. Get some internal references and you'd get a much better chance. It's not like AC, AT, QK or the others where you submit to HR and wait for a call. They hire almost exclusively to people they know through internal references etc...
Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
I'm not sure what information 126.75 has that would have brought him to his conclusion BUT...none of it was accurate nor delivered in a factual way. DaveP is the best guy to answer your question as he is the person directly responsible for that program. I have Line Indoc.'d pilot's with a wide range of experience from 1900's to Dash 8 to ex-AC Emb. There have been military guys in the classes as well. WJA has hired ex-SkyService types as well as corporate guys. Lot's of backgrounds and not all with internal references. May I suggest you pm DaveP and ask what the procedure would be to come out and tour the campus, meet some people and explore whether we are a company you would be happy at. Best wishes!!
Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
CCR is right in the fact that WestJet has pilots from a variety of back grounds. An internal referral however is very important. Experience can be more of a hinderance to attitude than a complement to skill.
Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
DO a Walk through, PM DaveP, and hopefully go out and shake his hand. A part time gig IMO is not the best way to get into a flying position at this level.

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
Good topic! Here is what recently happened to me:
Got the email-logged on, updated and carefully answered all the questions....
clicked apply and then I checked the application status page only to find that
my application did not meet the hiring requirements and that my application
was not successful!!! I withdrew my application, reviewed it and resubmitted it...
The status page then informed me that my recent application was pending review!!
To be honest, I was rather surprised at first that my application was rejected but I
figured there must be a glitch in the application process!!
Still waiting to see if I'll get a bite!! I'm patient!!
Quick breakdown of my experience:
11000 hrs total
8000 hrs PIC (2000 Dhc-6/6000 Dhc-8 & Q400 DEC)
2600 hrs SIC (Dhc-6/Dhc-8)
Remaing hrs miscl small aircraft...
BSc (honors)
Fluent in 2 languages
Welcome back at each and every previous employer!!
... Don't know what else to do other than to be patient!!
The worst part must be actually sorting through the applications
and choosing the right candidates.... There seems to be a plethora
of highly qualified candidates!!!
Good luck to all

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
Thank you for the responses. I have been using social media trying to reconnect with guys/girls I have known in
in the past. Some have come back more than happy to recommend me I internally. Perhaps too late now.
What is so perplexing is how quickly the recruitment email came back. I was notified by the WJ careers site Friday that
a Pilot position was open for application. Sent in my new profile application Saturday and got back a rejection Monday
late morning. Was my application even looked at or rejected by the computer system?? I'm hoping someone from
from inside WJ, perhaps DaveP could shed some light o this.
Ultimately I will keep fighting the good fight. The end game is worth being tenacious.

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
Does it mean anything when your application says Status in Progress or Next Step In progress?? Or is this just the softwares way of saying you meet the requirement...
Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
Seems pretty positive.TheGreatCornholio wrote:Does it mean anything when your application says Status in Progress or Next Step In progress?? Or is this just the softwares way of saying you meet the requirement...
Mine only says Status - Application Received, Next Step - Thank you for your application.
Sorry I can't specifically answer your question but at least you can compare to mine.
Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
What is the correct answer to #7 and #8, when you have a valid Canadian passport..?
7. *Do you currently hold a valid passport? Yes/No
8. *If not a Canadian passport, do you hold a Canadian Permanent Resident Card and all individual crew visas necessary for you to fly unrestricted, anywhere WestJet flies? Yes/No
I don't want the application system to consider me ineligible if I answer No to question 8, however answering Yes implies that I do not have a Canadian passport. Maybe I'm overthinking this. Any thoughts....?

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
I assume they are running behind with getting the "Encore" job postings up, previous threads mentioned around the end of November and we are now into mid-December....anyone in the know care to share when the postings will be up on the site ?
Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
I've heard February for the Encore posting.

This is funny, I had the same thoughts.FISH-FLY wrote:What is the correct answer to #7 and #8, when you have a valid Canadian passport..?

I ended up going with a "yes" for question 8. If they have any doubts about me having a valid passport, i'm sure that they would look at my "yes" to question 7 and see that I had one. I did not want to risk answering "no" for the same reason.
Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
The way the question is worded, if NOT a Canadian passport, then you answer the question, otherwise leave it blank.
You see this on many forms, if yes the following questions apply otherwise skip to question 9

Question 8 had and asterisk beside it, meaning "required field"mbav8r wrote:The way the question is worded, if NOT a Canadian passport, then you answer the question, otherwise leave it blank.

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
coast2coast, et all,
Doesn't sound right at all. My guess is a technical glitch...unfortunately too common with any first round event. (Never buy a new issue car, computer, etc). Sorry...and don't take it personally. Like friendlybear, if this is really the company you want to work for, then I'd be trying again and again, to see if the computer system accepted my application.
As far as DaveP is concerned, I believe he is on a sabatical from here; at least thats what I thought he meant from his most recent post. Good on him, he's a busy dude and 2013 is going to be busier than the previous year!! He represented WJ well on this forum.

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
I applied the other day for Encore. Just wondering from someone else- is it the same Resume/CV for both applications - or did I miss a way to add a different one?
Cheers

Give him a break! Every pilot has the right to apply. How do you know that he is not unemployed or at a company paying him less.
Anonymity, you have lost all credibility with this post. Grow up and get a life!

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
I had credibility, ok but I was unemployed and turned down a few offers of employment that were undesirable wawcons, including a shiny new jet. Never signed a bond and worked for a company who was going to bond me to switch equipment, would've been a better schedule, at home every night with few exceptions, said NO, so I feel as though my credibilty should not be in question for calling a spade a spade.
I have 2 decades of experience and was considering quite seriously about applying, until I saw those conditions, I can only hope all those applying are doing so to turn down the offer to send a message.

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings
Well, you know nothing about me, or why I applied to encore. Yes, it will be less money, and a smaller plane, but that isn't everything. IMHO, I think this will be a starting point for Encore. Do I think the published numbers will be the same in two years - no...
But I digress - is it the same resume and CV for both?
Cheers

Oh, so it's the mainline carrot, I stand by my earlier statement. I don't have to know anything about you to know your actions have consequences beyond your little world, don't worry though, you're not the only one
