Yeah I heard about it on the news. I think they said the plane originated from Guelph, as the reporters were trying to contact people from their flying club.

GTA PILOT HURT IN CRASH

A TORONTO-AREA pilot suffered badly broken legs and a fractured wrist Saturday when his single-engine airplane crashed shortly after takeoff near Waterloo.

The 48-year-old pilot, whose name was not released, was towing a glider as he took off from a private runway at 5 p.m. in Elmira.

"The aircraft made a sharp turn and suddenly descended," said Staff Sgt. Warren Haasnoot, of Waterloo Regional Police.

The pilot of the glider was able to detach from the troubled aircraft and land safely as the plane crashed into a wooded area near the airstrip.
I was not present when the accident happened, and am unable to provide many additional details. My understanding is that the above posts are substantially accurate.

Our towplane is apparently a total loss. Our 1-34 was on tow, and I'm told that it landed without incident.

Obviously this is a very unwelcome development, but I take solace from the fact that it could have ended more tragically.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the good wishes and offers of assistance that we have received from York Soaring and Air Sailing, which are very much appreciated. -- Roger Harris - President GGSA
