Too late to apprentice?
About 6 or 7 years ago, I went to school and took a two year program in Aircraft Maintenance. I never really entered the field when I graduated and pursued other endeavors at the time. What I was wondering is whether my diploma would still be valid in pursuing the field, or if I have to go back to school to even get started? In short, can I still use my diploma to apprentice? Thanks.

Re: Too late to apprentice?
Your training should be still valid. The curriculum hasn't changed that much in six years. Check with the local TC office to be sure.
If you have a job lined up, go for it. If not, you're probably going to waste a lot of time looking. Aviation isn't as healthy as it was six years ago. There's also been a glut of hundreds of newer, fresher apprentices graduated since you left. You'll have some fierce competition for what jobs are available.
From a HR standpoint they may wonder how committed you are if you didn't pursue it at the time. I sure you had good reasons (like an attack of common sense and reason) but HR types don't always look at things the way the rest of us do.

If you haven't done anything aircraft related during that time, it will be a little tougher.
The bigger problem is that the market is completely over-saturated with apprentices. There's at least 50 locals and 300 Canada wide applying for every job. I think Stevenson is putting out over 70 new apprentices a year.

I'm sure you'll find that your diploma still meets the TC training requirements.
Don't be too discouraged by the applicant to job opening ratios people are talking about. The work/life experience and maturity you've presumably gained over the last 7 years could work to your advantage if presented properly.
