Caravan PPC or Bearskin FO?
I have recently been given the opportunity to get a PPC on the Caravan with my current company and an interview with Bearskin. My only concern is that my current job is in northern Alberta and my wife lives in Northern Manitoba. What would everyone else do if put in my shoes? My current job is 20 on 10 off with pretty good pay and benefits. With bearskin i'll fly lots and will have passes. My wife flies for perimeter so we can both travel with either company to see each other. As of now I have no idea what I should do. Thanks for any help.

These days on avcanada I try a bit more to subscribe to the "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" way of doing things, because it's too easy to just be negative; but for god's sake, be a man and make up your mind. You're an adult married male! You should be able to weight the pros and cons of the different options available to you, come to a decision that works best for you and your wife, and than move forward being confident that you made the right decision. Nobody here knows all the details of your situation better than you, so why look to a bunch of anonymous strangers to help you decide?
Then again, if you can't figure this one out on your own perhaps you should stick with the FO route...for life.
Rant over.

I love avacanada...
Who cares about a PPC on either? Which one will make you and your wife happier, take that one.

Wow...I'm sure he can put together the pros and cons, sometimes it is a good idea to gain someone elses opinion on large decisions. Sometimes you will not think of something which would be the first thought for someone else. Maybe someone has some inside info to share about one option that he could not ever know. I ask my friends and colleagues for advice from time to time, I don't think it's a bad idea to reach hundreds of people in the same profession for some tips...ragbagflyer wrote:These days on avcanada I try a bit more to subscribe to the "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" way of doing things, because it's too easy to just be negative; but for god's sake, be a man and make up your mind. If I was in your shoes I would be at Bearskin for sure. Upgrade after 2 years to left seat. Flight passes, good company. Unknown about your current gig though, what can you upgrade to within the company? To make a move with 208 time you will be looking at right seat on a metro or similar again to get your multi time, or into a company that needs you on the van where you can move on from there. Between Perimeter and Bearksin you will be able to see your wife lots.

My vote is Bearskin.
I had the same choice a few years back and chose the PIC time, it was good for the short term but I always wondered where I would be had I taken the metro job.
If airlines is where you want to be then Bearskin is what you need, good 2 crew atmosphere as well.
But there are a lot of variables involved.
Good Luck with your decision.
Ragbagflyer what douche you are, nothing wrong with getting other peoples input before making a decision. That is my opinion of a good Captain, not some arrogant prick who thinks he knows it all and perceives asking for input as a sign of weakness.

Hey guys, heard that a lot of FO's were leaving the bear recently. Does this have something related to a too long upgrade time? Or that company has such a great reputation that even the FO's get a call for Jazz?
Also, are there any commuters at the bear right now on AvCan? Is it feasible to hold a few days off in a row or you don't get much controle on that?

In the end...
It's all about the lifestyle
Most learn this too late.
Good luck with which ever path you take.

FO's aren't leaving because the upgrade time is too long. It's currently just over 2 years roughly, give or take, like it has been for a bit and they aren't leaving for Jazz and AC because the Bear has a great reputation. It's just those companies are hiring now and they're the "next thing up", personal tastes IMHO.Cisbour wrote:Hey guys, heard that a lot of FO's were leaving the bear recently. When you're new, it's difficult to hold a number of days off in a row you want...it's hit or miss.

I see this site is as ridiculous as ever LOL!
Take the Bear. Fantastic company with fantastic people.
I moved on years ago but it is still, easily, one of the best companies I have ever worked for!
Cheers,

I was in the same boat a few months back. I took the caravan job so I would be home with my wife and son every night. The pay will always be better on the caravan vs a metro as well. Either way, good luck with your decision.
