I get the impression that many controllers know we're looking for it, and some will even ask if we're set up for it even we don't mention it, however, we've been told that unless it's on the ATIS as the active approach, we're to ask for it.

It's not about ass covering, it's about knowing what approach you want. And not all Westjet flights want it.

Yesterday... "WJA123 requesting runway 30", "WJA123 fly direct ROVBI for the RNP 30", "uh...actually we'd like the ILS"

Today.... "WJA123 requesting runway 30", "WJA123 fly direct JEVON for the ILS 30", "uh...actually we'd like the short gate today."
