It will represent this specific aircraft in this specific livery.

The selection was made based on:
- the history of the specific airframe being represented (104651), this is the configuration it was lost in.
- the colours that best represented the type in Edmonton and Alberta.
- Public input. Polished was by far the most popular.

Does Renolds have one, most likely a single seat? I remember seeing one at the airshow in RedDeer in the late 1980s or early 1990s. It might have been from Cold lake but I thought it was from Wetaskiwan.

Even then I was amazed by how small the wings were.

About the same as a Piper Cub's, actually.

But the Cub has a wing loading of 7 lbs/sq ft
vs the 150 lbs/sq ft of the -104.

Most interesting thing about the wings is that
the leading edge is razor-sharp. Guard strips
are a good idea to stop people from getting
serious cuts on their foreheads.

The reason for the CAF vs RCAF are a couple:
1) It fits between the early Voodoo CF-101 we have in RCAF marking and the late CF-101 in CAF
2) The history, this specific aircraft 104651, was lost at Cold Lake due to a bird strike these are the markings it was in when lost.

A big part of the reason we acquired the Starfighter was to be able to tell the Alberta story the history of 651 reflects both the good and the bad of that history. The 104 was an amazing exciting bird, but many were lost. We want to pay tribute to the aircrew and aircraft lost in Alberta and 651 with no fatalities is the story we have chosen to tell.

Reynolds has a single seater that was on display for some years.

I understand it is now off public display waiting to be refinished

Already made and installed, even though the wings are not.

Thank you everyone

The process going forward is:
1) Fuselage will leave the museum in about 10 days for stripping.
2) Wings, Nose Cone, Horizontal Stab will follow not long after.
3) Fuselage will be polished on return
4) Assembly will take place, cockpit fitted out when instruments arrive and painted parts return.
5) Markings will be applied

In the end our Starfighter is to become the "Ghost of 104651".
We are in contact with the original pilots
Have the accident report and photographs coming
Have found the original 651's tail section and hope to obtain it.

Hoping for a roll out and maybe an unofficial 104 reunion.

As for where and when, it depends on the date the formation photo of the recce birds was taken. CF-104 747*RCAF is actually s/n 12747 (changed to 104747 on the 2nd of June, 1970) and served with both No. 441 'Silver Fox' (Strike/Reconnaissance) Squadron and No. 439 'Sabre-Toothed Tiger' (Strike/Reconnaissance) Squadron while at No. 1 Wing in Marville France. Both squadrons moved to Lahr, Germany effective the 1st of April, 1967.

Question for zipper pilot?

On all video of 104 startup i alway saw the pilot showing the startup progression with is right hand,and some time the ground personnel answer with the same sing

If i'm off track i will wait for the good info.

tree fingers:startup complete

Guy: Just do bot call a -104 pilot a Zipper pilot..I have no idea who the started using that term but my friends who flew these aircraft never refered to them as Zippers.

Ignition Start Sequence - Initiate

Signal ground crew to initiate airflow

At engine rotation - Throttle Mil power then Idle

1 Finger at 10% rpm (Fuel Flow 450 - 700 pph @ 10 -12% rpm)

2 Fingers at 20% rpm

3 Fingers at 30% rpm

4 Fingers at 40% rpm (Air is disconnected at this time)

Note: Normal idle is 67% rpm, 8.5 - 9.0 Nozzle, 12 psi minimum oil pressure, Fuel Flow 1000 - 1300 pph, and EGT 220 - 420 deg C within 60 sec.
