That's a shame. It's good to get the kids interested in aviation.
What about their PPL program?

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
That's indeed a sad day. Funny how there's all sorts of money for attack ads, fake lakes and gazebos
, yet programs that make a difference to our country get cut...

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
In shock here.... I hope we can get this idea reversed

If you donate 100 dollars to a political party in canada you get 75 back when you do your taxes. If you donate 100 dollars to charity you get maximum 15 dollars back when you do your taxes, depending on how much you donated and spent. If the kids want to fly gliders theyre best advised to create a political party and solicit donationsNorth Shore wrote: Funny how there's all sorts of money for attack ad

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
Wow can we paper Harper's offoce and let him know what a bad idea this is?
Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
It's a travesty. We know how many Canadian aviators got their start with that program. One is in orbit as we speak. More of the same from the Harperistas. It must be part of "Canada's Action Plan"
Maybe it will be contracted out, right?

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
Unbelievable! And so much was going around it. Instructors, cadet rides, birddog pilots...
Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
That bothers me. I was not a cadet but I know a fee who were and I was talking to a bunch who were soliciting donations last weekend. All of them very excited about doing the glider programme this summer.
I've always voted conservative but in the past 6 years this government hasn't done anything to help the labour markets I work in, nor have they made the right choices in my opinion from a social aspect.
Poor kids.

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
If we let this come to pass it will be a truly sad day in the history of Canadian aviation. In my opinion second only to the cancellation of the Avro Arrow. What the hell do the Conservatives have against aviation. I grew up a dirt poor farmer's kid and if it hadn't been for the Air Cadets in general, and the Glider scholarship program specifically, I don't think I would be a
commercial pilot today. I just turned 47 this week and after all that time I still believe that I am the man I am today because
of what I learned and was exposed to as a cadet. If it hadn't been for the opportunity to earn my wings through the cadet program I wouldn't have joined. The Cadet motto say's it all...To Learn.. To Serve...To Advance.
We have to do something to prevent this. Let me know how I can help. I remember seeing a post on here about Rick Mercer's
intro flight in a glider. Anyone on here know how to contact him to see if he will help prevent this travesty.
Sad, Sad, Sad!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the students I teach at work is in an Intermediate Communications class. He has social shortcomings and a learning disability. The other day he told me about his gliding experience a week earlier and I've never seen him so excited to share a story.
He was looking forward to doing it again!

All those dunderheads who voted for the CONs are finally waking up. To a nightmare.
I said CONs not Conservatives. Big difference. They wrap themselves in the flag while destroying our country and values. Wake up.

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
If the Government is going to take this down, I am OK with it if they slash and burn a lot of other really worthless programs in Canada.

And I don't mean just the 99 stupid things, but lets get really controversial and cut to the bone the programs of questional benefit ie: official bilingualism, subsidies, social spending, etc. After all, who is to say that any of these pork projects are more noble or worthwhile than sticking teens into glider and giving them a taste of something more worthwhile?
I mean, lets really reduce the deficit, the debt, and taxation all at the same time.

The Liberals have been doing that for decades, I'm afraid.

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
I share the sense of loss, I trained highly deserving young Canadians in the Air Cadet Gliding Program for 5 years. Many went on to power scholarship, and several to careers in aviation. All benefited from the sense of values inherent in Air Cadets.
However .... any thoughts that if a government formed other group than the Conservative Party will ever restore this worthwhile program is nothing short of laughable. Look at the Liberals performance .... did more damage to the Canadian military over a period of decades than enough. The NDP hold nothing but contempt for anyone who puts on a uniform with the possible exception of firefighters. The Greens ..... well, the country would be lucky to have any military left at all if they ever took over.

Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
Does anyone know what the Air Cadets Annual budget is for flying and I wonder if their assets could be purchased from the Government by a not-for-profit organization?
Re: A sad day in Canadian Aviation...
Very true, I was an Air Cadet urging the Cretin/Martin years and our budget was DRASTICALLY reduced during my years there. Budget Cuts was the phrase of the year. We tried to make up for it by doing additional fundraising to some extent but it wasn't easy.single_swine_herder wrote:I share the sense of loss, I trained highly deserving young Canadians in the Air Cadet Gliding Program for 5 years.
