Wondering how many airline guys still fly general aviation, whether it be owning, renting, working in their spare time. To those that do, do you find it challenging to going from the controlled/fast/automated world....to something much slower and basic

You bet. Aviation is a way of life and, since having some spare cash to play with little airplanes, I have been able to recapture the early joys of flying that I had.

I just got my gyroplane permit a few days ago, and I enjoy flying ultralight trikes (weight-shift control) most of all. FL003 instead of FL300. Slow rather than fast. I also do gliders and a club 172 during the summer.

I am not in the situation to own an aircraft at the moment, but I keep fantasizing about owning something economical like a trike and/or a Cessna 140 or a Cherokee.

Complicated? Not the word that I would use to describe the transition from a 'bus to open cockpit slow stuff. "Wholesome" or "therapeutic" are better descriptive words. I wouldn't want it any other way and hope to be doing this right to the end.

Same here. I refer to my days off as heading out to a "real" airport to fly a "real" airplane. GA never lost it's appeal for me.

Same here, I own a 172.

Yesterday I flew 9 hours on autopilot at FL400 in the 'bus and 1 hour in the RV-10.

Both were fun.

I enjoy flying my smallplane on my days off. Especially since it turns the clock back from sophistication to simplicity. I have always loved GA. Wish avgas were cheaper.
