Trying to put a list of airports that have courtesy cars so that my wife and I can fly to and travel into town to do some sight seeing or grab some lunch.

Gore Bay and Wiarton both have in the past, maybe best to call ahead to make sure though.

Gore Bay (CYZE) has a courtesy van in the summer, they take it off the roads in the winter because of insurance. The CFS will usually tell you when the airport has a courtesy car.

That sounds like a ride in the "courtesy van" is available ... but I don't imagine very many airports anymore can provide keys to a courtesy vehicle.

They still do as of last summer.

I'm guessing you are around Ontario based on the replies,
a few close by I can remember off the top of my head
CYKF
CYKZ (real nice car too)
CYEE

There are still lots of them out there that give you the keys, many more have a shuttle to take you for lunch or something. Look it up in COPA :D

We've got a couple nice 90s vintage Nishiki mountain bikes here at Invermere. Just as fast as a car going down the hill into town.... a wee bit slower going uphill depending on how many $100 hamburgers you've had. :D

Princeton BC has a couple of nice K-Cars..... not that there is a ton to see in Princeton....

Lloydminster I think has one. Parked at Border City Aviation. Phone them to confirm.

So, has everybody become to stinking cheap to RENT a car for a day????

Having said that, I did get a ride into town from Dulles with a lovely girl named BJ. Draw your own conclusions.

Sometimes you can't. Not every little airport has a car rental agency...

You're crazy Doc. Why would I pay money if someone I know has a nice looking sister that likes me. Same goes for a loaner car, bad enough I can't find anyone that will loan me a c-172 or PA-28. Should I turn that down and keep renting planes too?

If you're just going to use the car to get lunch and come back maybe check out something quick, 1.5 hours at the most, it's really not worth the trouble of renting a car.

Note the key words used:

$$ saved is part of it. The wife will generally be enthused about not draining the funds as much.

One option: A pizzeria or other take-out within range of the destination airport, can order 'delivered at ETA' ... then offer an extra tip for the lift into town.

Why would you rent when you just bought for $10,000 worth of gaz?
The fueler is all too happy to provide you with a car
plus a bottle of wine AND a couple filet mignon steaks(sometimes)...

So one day in Tennenessee somewhere, (Fayetteville or Lafayette, I think)we were heading to town to get us a subway
with a cute brand new little car with ZERO miles on the counter.

On the way back, holding a sub and a big gulp coke, coming to a green light,
I tell pawdner who is drivin':"Look at the yahoos, see the firetruck coming up opposite us
and none of these retards give way so he can turn left!" So, he stand up on the brake to
let the guy with ten cherries flashing turn in front of us.

Aaaand naturally...right behind us, the driver of a school bus type of prison bus had seen nothing
except the green light and he ram our stationary butt at thirty miles an hour...My big gulp end up in my face
and my head six inches from his bumper! Luckily, not a scratch on us but my white shirt was now brown
and the new car with three miles on the counter was totaled. Even more lucky,
the FBO owning the car just happened to drive by...so he rushed back to the
airport to get a rental form for us to sign!

Everybody thought it was funny(them redneck rebs are good shits after all) especially the prisoners in the bus
who got to stretch their legs and tinkle their chains(yes, it was a chain gang!)...

Moral of the story...go with the flow...and if nobody stop, dont you dare be a smartass!

Here's a case where $$ is MADE. The car maker sells a new car ... the insurance company raises premiums ...

Really Doc, how many of the places you have flown into in your career had a car rental company? At the airport?
In my case it would be less than 5% and I have not flown into half the obscure places I suspect you have.

YMMV

Rental places on the airport are way more common south of the border than they are here. Just makes sense - if a town is large enough to have a car rental lot at it, put it at the airport. After all, cars don't complain about noise.

Incidentally, if one phones ahead the local GM dealership, one can get a rental car ready and waiting for you at CFX2.

To the comment about hiring a rental, in the little jaunt Ms. Pavese & I took last summer we had the good fortune of having a vehicle offered without asking at three smaller airports where we stopped including one overnight and one where we were given the truck belonging to the municipality(!) to go get lunch.

We also were treated to pick up & drop off by a very nice owner of a beautiful B & B in Bromont (Mikasa) who also gave us a tour of the town. This was all unexpected, we thought this only happened in the states!

So, for a rental (which we took in Otawa) it just depends on the circumstance.

We were offered courtesey vehicles in Riviere Du Loup, Mirimichi and St. Stephen.

If you visit "Mountain Home" in Arkansas (US), you can drive a nearly new Ford Mustang.
