Kids getting pretty good at formation ... this is at the end
of our formation routine. Eric lands, and I do a couple solo
maneuvers. A guy in the crowd took this video. Note that
we stole Rob Holland's announcer (Mike) - he's really good:

Anyways, the best thing about going to an airshow is getting to see all your friends

The second best thing is talking to reporters:

Reading the newspaper article reminded me of when I was 17 and went to an airshow where Steve Franklin and his son Jimmy. Their show featured the Waco and a Bellanca Viking that Jimmy flew. He was 17 at the time.

You must be awfully, rightfully proud of Eric. Your dad must be proud too. Thanks for posting.

Manfreid Radius? He's a great guy!

I was just wondering if he's still doing his glider shows. Good to see he is.

Manfred is a hoot! Heard a funny story about him ...

Doing a twilight/night show, and part of his show is
to continuously talk over the radio which is broadcast
to the crowd, to let them know what he is doing. It
was a big show down south, and with the FAA listening,
after release Manfred says,

"Oh my god! There is a solid overcast underneath me.
I am now in cloud. I am now doing aerobatics in cloud".

Apparently all you could see from below was this glow
in the cloud layer, as he lit off his flares. Eventually he
poked the nose of his glider out of the cloud and landed.

Good thing he did that down south, if you know what I
mean! In Canada, you go near a cloud with an airplane,
you will be in court for years.

Anyways. Got some photos from Eric Dumigan. Holy
Christ, he takes good pictures:

Colonel, if you get a chance, ask Eric to show you the pix from our flight on a C-130 at 8 Wing Trenton. Myself and the Public Affairs Officer escorted a group of media types for a famil ride on a C-130H. It turned out to be the aircraft commander's last day in the Air Force. We were flying with the ramp down and doing friggin wing overs at less than 2,000 feet AGL. Eric managed to take some stunning photos of the trip.

Cheers...Chris

Hey Colonel, those are some nice shots. Neat contrast with the two Pitts' and that fancy MXS-RH of Rob's. Still tough to beat the appearance of a biplane doing aerobatics in my mind.

Here's another amusing one about Manfred for you. A few years back he was to perform at Abbotsford, but the clouds were to low for him to fly (actually, everyone was having trouble that day). Anyhow, Manfred decided he still wanted to do something for the crowd, so he dug out his powered parachute, one of the 'backpack' type ones. He was cruising around having fun right in close ad down low, and then started doing touch and goes....landing on his feet, run for a bit, and takeoff again. Then, on one pass, he stuck his legs straight out in front of him, and did some more touch and goes, using his a** for his landing gear!! He would touch down and drag his butt along the grass for about 20 feet, lift up a few feet of the ground for a bit, and then do it all again. All the way down the flightline  I can't imagine what the seat of his pants looked like after that, but the crowd sure liked it. I was laughing to much to hold the camera steady enough to even snap one picture. I would love to see him do that again

Thanks! Not sure if it's the angle of the shot or not,
but I think I'm a few inches behind, which is annoying.

So is that last shot 3 generations ? Or am I really confused?

Yes.

Tim #1 (F-86, F-104 CEPE, SAC)
Eric #2 (SAC, age 19)
Me #3 (ATPL, SAC, lover of Kentucky Fried Chicken)

I don't think that happens very often. The obstacles
to doing so, are unbelievable.

You're going to have to slim down if you're going to fly with those two skinny guys, or get a helmet that doesn't make you look fat.
