Skylink Express in BC?

Post by filthy »

Well, just heard through the grapevine that Skylink Express is now spreading into Vancouver BC by the end of August.

Apparently there's three runs on the Caravan and one for the 1900.
Sounds like they're taking the UPS contract.....

Anyone else hear anything?

Skylink Express ARE coming out west! They have taken the UPS contract from both Sunwest and Orca. The Sunwest crew found out Friday night and the Orca crew found out Tuesday! They are both to stop as of Aug 26th!!

I'm suprised. We'll see how long it lasts.

Not excited, just can't believe it happened. I bit in shock. It's terrible to see yet another contract leave Orca. I would have never thought they would lose the UPS contract too!
I hope Andrew Naysmith has something in the works, don't like to see all their pilots be out of work!

Sunwest has always been hot and cold on cargo... not too much of a surprise there... they may have just lost the will to work hard to maintain a nickel and dime contract when it's such a small piece of their overall operation.

As for Orca - no surprise there either - in my opinion it would do a service to the pilots that work there and the companies a little further off the bottom operating in YVR if they would go tits up and disappear.

UPS hated Orca - the way they ran that contract was just like the rest of the operation - a gong show.

Sunwest could have had the contract again - but word is UPS wasn't having anything to do with a rate increase, and Sunwest wasn't making money anymore, so they declined it. They are not ones to keep a contract just for the sake of haveing it.

Which leads me to Skylink.....3 caravans and a single 1900??? Sunwest is running 2 metros and a caravan. What happens when your 1900 breaks? And what happens when the caravans miss half the winter because they can't fly through the ice and wx?? The 1900 has higher DOC's than the metro does - and they would not be getting the contract for more than what Sunwest was getting. I don't think UPS will be getting the same service levels they were getting with Sunwest, so the next 6 months should be pretty interesting.

I agree. They would fly a 1900 all the way from Calgary to cover that contract for UPS if their was a mechanical or wx issue and take a huge hit for doing it. We will see if UPS comes crying back to Sunwest begging for the level service they once had.

The Caravans should not have too much problem with winters on the Coast. Morning Star has been running them exclusively.
But yes, if a MTCE issue crops up on the sole 1900, what then? I'm assuming that the 1900 will be the YLW plane? Also how will they do the work with 3 planes that used to be done with 2 Metros, a Caravan and motley crew of Navajos?

Oh - come on V1. LOL! I'm sure there were quite a few days you scrubbed due to WX. Course it wasn't much of a problem to have a metro do double duty. The last couple of winters saw both Morningstar and Sunwest caravans idle.

In 3 and a half years, of course there was. If in a year there were 260 working days and 5 were lost due to weather, that still gives a 98% dispatch rate.
A bit better than that of the Metro IIs and their MTCE issues wouldn't you say?

In anycase, I wish both Starlink and UPS well... A match made in heaven.

I'm sure Starlink really appreciates you throwing them in the running for the contract and having to compete with Skylink
