hello all,

I'am a week away from doing my Class IV Instructor flight test and have a few questions;

1.) How many PGI's did you have to present
2.) Are the exercises that you did the PGI on the ones you fly?
3.) Any other material asked..for example emergency procedures or w/b formula's
4.) How long was the whole test?
5.) Anything you didn't expect?

I am unsure on how the test will be conducted or format and was hoping to hear from other people who recently went through the test.

3.yes, in my case a specialty takeoff (let's make this a teaching moment in the aircraft... "Ok, Mr Examiner-student, why don't *you* get out the POH and show me where the aircraft specific details of a soft field takeoff can be found...") Plus "show me a short field over an obstacle landing and nominate your touchdown point"
4. 0.7 air time

I will get in ahead of the Colonel with his own advice... A class IV ride is passed and failed in the PGI.

Indeed! Don't BS anything, they will know more then you. If you don't know, state that, and then state that you can look it up in XXXXXXX. They are not looking for perfection, they are looking for someone who won't spew lies when they don't know what they are talking about.

While you are demmoing your exercises ALWAYS be sure you have students attention. On my 4 the examiner had his nose out the window looking around while I was explaining something... Had to tell him to pay attention etc... If I hadn't noticed and said something it would have gone less well..

Also when the examiner is wearing their "student" hat expect they will not have their feet on the rudder, be over correcting, fixating on AI etc... you must pay attention to what they are doing etc...

As mentioned before not looking for perfection at this point. They are looking to make sure you wont kill anyone. Once you figure out what examiner you have ask around in your area about the dude... everyone has pet peeves, knowing what that examiners pet peeves can win you brownie points if properly leveraged...
