Converting from UK (EASA) licenses to TC
Hi all,
My first post on here, and im curious, as my partner and I are looking at a possible move to Canada in a few years, and whilst I am starting to gain my ATPL at the moment ( Currently have ppl) in the UK, I'm wondering how to go about converting my licenses when and if the time comes, and how its done?.. So that I can gain employment in Canada.
Thanks in Advance
Tom G

Read the link above, contains everything you need.
Basically you need to do all the exams, but no training, to convert everything.

Another option is to get your FAA ATP - all
the Europeans say it's so easy, so why not
do it? - and then convert to a TC ATPL via
the IPL, which is just a medical and a written
test.

Have a decent plan for getting a work permit in Canada. It's not just a question of having the right Pilot licence.

The easiest way is to go straight for the Canadian ATPL. If you have all the requirements, you can do that even if all you have a UK PPL or CPL.
If you apply for a Canadian CPL with multi-engine and and Instrument ratings, you will be forced to write the Commercial written and Instrument written exams and then do a Commercial-multi-engine-instrument ride as pilot in command in an aircraft.
However, if you qualify for a Canadian ATPL, regardless of what foreign licence or ratings you already have or don't have, all you need to do is write the Instrument written the two ATPL written exams and then do an instrument check ride in the right seat of a multi-engine simulator, as Second in Command, with an experienced Captain in the left seat to help you along.........
Much easier........

Maybe think about holding off on your training until you get to Canada, and work a good job for the next couple of years. Your money will go a lot further in Canada. This comes from someone who has dealt with the cost of a JAA licence.
Good luck
