Going to fly/work in Austrailia?
Didn't find much on the search. Im a BE20 Captain with an ATPL, looking to go to Austrailia and fly king airs. Im under 30, so I can go for at least 1 year without any work visa. I found the avcanada of Austrailia, founds jobs, most say ICAO Aptl and the right to work in Austrailia. Does anyone know anyone who succesfully done this. Conversion exam? medical? the supply/demand for experienced guys? Thanks, google isn't answering all my questions, and employers down there don't seem to know the details either.

Your "instrument rating" is useless in Australia.
It will require, the written exam which is a hell of lot easier than Inrat.
It will require "an initial ride", expect all the approaches, a hold and several hours
unless, you get a "good location" where it can be done.
Far north Queensland - Call BOB HARRIS
You can't go wrong with Bob.
You will need to do the Air law exam and of course medical
which you can find some Australian DME in Canada without much of a problem.
The other thing you need is your log book make sure its stamped up to date etc.
I doubt that you will have a problem, get used to tropical thunderstorms and
a craving for some cold weather.
Most places you will be flying get some very high temperatures , fine dust and flies.
But take your video camera and record away.
If you end up having romance, just remember, you will a lot safer
raising kids in Australia than Canada where fathers have
next to no legal rights and where Male Sharia Law rules.
You will probably score a job in NZ, and in PNG, it
was just an air leg exam and you were good to go
from an Aus license.
Still got my PNG black cover license in the drawer that was a copy
of the Australian.
Enjoy your year there, odds are you will will want to stay there
or move on to other countries for more adventure.

Are you saying it's easier to land a job in NZ than it is Australia?captcrunch2013 wrote:Your "instrument rating" is useless in Australia.

I know of at least one person who got their start in Oz here http://careflight.org/careers1/aviation ... ixed_wing/. They were based in Darwin, think YK of Australia with Crocs and jellyfish vs Cold and polar bears.
Best adventure ever!
Not advocating for the company as I have never worked for them but 100k+ as a SPIFR Capt.
Cheers DW

I'm curious, how easy is it for a plain-vanilla Canadian (with no ties whatsoever to Australia) to get the legal permission to work there as a pilot?

Use a pass, go talk to an operator and find out. Work visas are available but it must be company sponsored. Keep in mind we are not talking Sydney or Brisbane here. Not easy but definitely not impossible.Panama Jack wrote:I'm curious, how easy is it for a plain-vanilla Canadian (with no ties whatsoever to Australia) to get the legal permission to work there as a pilot?
