Mikey McBryan Confirms: No Ice Pilots NWT Season 6

Saw it in this thread on Reddit today. Mikey McBryan was going a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" and says that so far there is no deal signed for season 6 of the popular "reality" show Ice Pilots NWT. Too bad, it was entertaining while it lasted, and definitely improved in quality over its run.

He also said that it depends on ratings, so I don't know how a few weeks of ratings can determine if a show gets renewed for another season. That's why I'm not in the TV business, nor the airline business!

I'm thinking this applies to all of the so called "reality TV" -- it makes people in the particular profession roll their eyes in disbelief and go WTF -- funny thing is people seem to eat it up and it's a money maker -- no script - no lines -- no actors -- no union or guild -- pay someone a few bucks to "mug" for the camera - let the director turn it into a fantasy land and a "golden voice" in the background and you can turn anything into reality TV -- but it ain't real and when I look at any of these programs -- and my attention span lasts to about the point where all I can think of is "who is holding the fucking camera" the remote goes into action and I look for reruns of Gilligan's Island --

Well Charlie, this time I got to disagree with you. That show brings back a lot of memories from the good old days. I've changed more DC-3 engines out of the backs of gravel trucks and with the use of pine tree tripods than I care to think about. Many times there weren't any trees big enough for the job. Lost count of the number of times I'd put the skis on and off in a winter. Sometimes for just one trip to increase the amount of freight we could haul. On one occasion I was dropped off at the Big Trout airport to change a cylinder on a DC-3. I'd never been there before and had no idea where I would sleep on that frozen night in Jan, I think it was. To make a long story short, got the cylinder changed, one push rod tube seal was leaking, didn't have another one, weather went for a shit, accident in town, now an emergency medevac is needed, loaded patient, nurse, me, and took off into the shit weather with oil running off the cowls for Sioux Lookout. Flight was completed, patient survived, oily engine cleaned, new seal installed, just another day. Can't remember who the pilot was.............

Contrary to what was perceived on my post above I will admit iI enjoy the odd installment. The point I was trying to make is that there is dumbing down for non aviators and while there are no lines there is a certain amount of direction from behind the camera- up the melodrama a little. That's what makes reality TV so hard to stomachs sometimes - not just ice pilots but the whole genre that has sprouted over the last few years- i do however like Dr Pol when he nuts the pigs - being a farm boy I Remember it well - lmfaoooooooo

I like it. I'm just not into television. I can't even tell when they use the wrong engine noises. I like Areal Tweeto even better that's entertainment!

Well, I'll go on record as saying that I enjoyed the show. Sure, some of the flying scenes seemed a little out-of-the-ordinary, but I found it to be an interesting sketch about the characters.. However, like any show, there's only so many times that you can hear someone say "F@ckit, I quit!" and storm out of the door, or have the narrator ask "Will the Valley sked get out on time?" before the show gets a little old.

Still, they had a good run, and I'm sure that Yellowknife and NWT tourism got a great boost from it.
