Politely told that there are no employment opportunities for you at this present time....wishing you the best in your future endeavors....aka: PFO

Just sounds so much nicer...but means the same thing. :-)

I'm a beast, so I'll say it in English. Please @#$! Off.

Also, don't take it personally. I have had maybe 50 PFO letters whilst pursuing 4 jobs.

Ha Ha, I had the bright idea at one point to send resumes to every company in the World Aviation Directory that I wanted to fly for...it rained "please phuk off" letters for months at my house.

Rained PFOs? Funny, I've never received one in my life. Either I was offered the job, or received zero response.
I thought that little preemptive "We would like to express our appreciation to all applicants, but due to the anticipated overwheling interest in these positions, only those..." blanket PFO statement was the standard anymore.

Never received one, the only companies I've heard back from are the ones I've ended up working for. I was just curious as I kept seeing it in the Air Canada forum.

Never worked in aviation but I have rarely seen a PFO letter. Same as GyvAir and yourself, typically after applying and even a few interviews, either I'd get hired or never hear from them again.

'I know a guy that knows a that knows a guy'.....that got a PFO letter (twice) from the head guy. Despite having high recommendations from senior guys from within the head guys' organisation.

A few years later that same PFO-sending-guy applied for a job and position where that same original PFO'd guy worked.
Surprisingly, the PFO-sending-guy didn't get the job. Probably a coincidence. Probably.

Conclusion:
Don't be THAT guy sending a PFO letter to a guy when all your other senior guys are telling you that he's the guy to hire.

Soooooo...don't be that guy.

PFO letters were common before 1990 when companies would reply to your application.
Now they weasel out of responding at all "Only qualified applicants will be contacted"

I was able to wallpaper an 8x12 wall with oil company PFO's in the early eighties

he was the first friend of the guy who heard the story about guys sending pfo to the soon to be pfo'er and thus becoming a pfo'd poor bastard.
when you think about it twice: pfo'd will turn pfo'er.
simple.
