Flight times.
When do you think you are no longer considered a low time pilot.
So when do you think you are a mid or high time pilot.
So when do you think you are a mid or high time pilot.
Re: Flight times.
When I had 50 hours, I thought 200 hours was "high time".
When I had 200 hours, I thought 1000 hours was "high time".
When I had 1000 hours, I thought 5000 hours was "high time".
As I approach 5000 hours, I still don't even think of myself as "mid time", and definitely not "high time"... that means about 20,000 hours!

Re: Flight times.
My 02 cents
Low time = 0 - 1000 hrs
Mid time = 1000- 5000 hrs
High time = 5000 +
Or alternatively you are not high time if you have fewer hours than me

Re: Flight times.
Zero time <250
Low time <1100
In between 1100-2400
Mid time 2400-6000
High time >6000
Just my thoughts.

Re: Flight times.
Supposing a pilot flies about 30,000 hours in a lifetime of professional flying over about 40 to 45 years. Just divide that time in thirds.
That would make low time under 10,000, mid time 10,000 to 20,000, and high time from 20,000 to the finish of career.
Please note that its all in the perspective of total times and also note that my tongue is planted firmly in my cheek.

Re: Flight times.
High time is when you need not produce a log book to get a job -- low time is everything below that
Re: Flight times.
Or high time is when you don't care how much time you have anymore, aka you will retired from this job.Liquid Charlie wrote:High time is when you need not produce a log book to get a job -- low time is everything below that

Re: Flight times.
It's all relative.
I haven't officially broken 2000 hours yet, but I've been in the industry for 15 years, flying for 12, flying commercially for 8 (10 years minus a two year hiatus)...... am I 'low time?'
Lots of those hours that get racked up don't add directly to experience.... heck, some of them are logged in crew rest bunks!

I know a guy in the left seat of a D228, who has/had around 900 hours TT. They were almost all on Tudors, F18, & C130. 900 hours of military time seems to be looked at as "high" time...as many under 1000 TT are flying twin turbines.
For strictly civilian flying...
I liked what Liquid Charlie said above...when you don't have to show your logbook anymore to get a job, that to me should be considered high time.
0-1000 Low
1000-5000 Mid
over 5000 high.
I barely broke 5000 hours in 17 years flying commercially and another 10 years private.

So when do you think you are a mid or high time pilot.
1. I will always be a poor pilot!
2. Every time I go flying I endanger anyone in the air within 100 miles of me.
3. Every other pilot out there is deliberately trying to kill me so that they can improve their flying environment.
4. Every single time I go flying I try to improve my skills or extend my self imposed limits
I'm still surprised when these instructor types willingly get in a plane with me
YMMV
