Anyone ever work for Canadian air crane?
I'm a student finishing up school and I am looking for anyone who has some information about Canadian Sky crane. I would love to spend some time checking out a S-64E, I think its an absolutely insane machine. Anyone who has some experience is appreciated.

Fresh out of school? Dont even bother trying to get your foot in the door. They only take guys with years of experience. My friends brother works there, I've never heard of them taking on apprentices.

That's bad advice. Why would you discourage someone from applying? freeAdventure, any company may be interested in taking on an apprentice. You never know until you try.
By the way, I don't work there, or know anyone that works there. I'm just sayin'...

Pure Bullsh#t my friend. We're talking maintenance here, not piloting. They have hired apprentices in the past, especially before the recession, Not sure what the current situation is though, as there are only a few working in Canada right now, mostly in the logging side of things.Brice wrote:Fresh out of school? I have worked with the crane guys and I know at least one of them was hired with no tech school training. Did his apprentiship on the job. They are usually around the west coast logging these days, tough to run into them at an airport, they are usually in the bush somewhere, nice guys.

Things may be different now, but 14 years ago they had 6-10 apprentices, several right out of school, working there.Fling Wing wrote:Pure Bullsh#t my friend. Most helicopter companies will hire apprentices, whether they advertise it or not. You want to work there so just apply.

Hi Everyone
I appreciate the responses, and thanks for the motivation. I would really love to get some time to just check one out up close. From the 2013 helicopter directory I know there are a few in bc, I am in Ontario but am heading out to BC post college for a month to do some rock climbing and kayaking so I was hoping I could connect with someone. I think I'll just send off a well crafted e-mail and see what happens.
I didn't even mention a job in the post, it's good to see people trying to impart a positive message to young guys. Get motivated and go for it.

There was one working for Hydro-One around the Sudbury area. It flew east from Thunder Bay about three weeks ago. Haven't seen it return, so you could try asking somebody from Hydro-One aviation division if it still there.
