Hiring Tanker/Birddog pilots...Conair and who else?

Post by matt foley »

Anyone else hiring this season? Thought if someone were keen and had the right info they could take a roady via the various provinces and hit the CPs office for a free(remember nothing is free in this world) coffee before things get really busy.
Where would ones time be un-wasted, both theirs and the host, if they stopped in with say...5000tt, 1000 float and some over 12,500 MPIC? Conairs info is in their add(and the previously mentioned minimums are reality) but could anyone help out with some other options/agencies? Please, no guesses and "I thad a buddy who talked to some guy once." Just facts.
This isn't for me by the way. Well sort of as it would give me an answer when pilots ask instead of the "I have no f*#$ing clue" look with the associated minor stroke symptoms i usually offer.

I think Airspray in Alberta would be worth talking to. The just secured a new contract in BC.

I think this is what you maybe looking for:
1) Call Conair. Probably find the number on website.
2) Ask for Flight Ops. Probably get Susan or Pam.
3) Tell the person who answers that you have the previously mentioned experience and would like to drop a CV off in person, get a tour etc.
4)Get hired, make a bunch of money doing some very enjoyable flying and retire young.

Don't waste your or their time if you don't exceed the minimums posted on the add.
Can't speak to any other companies but this should get you started.

Not so sure about the retire young part. I don't know of any pilots that retired "young" from Conair.

If you are talking about the scooping plane contract - according to my friends that fix planes for Conair, Airspray
might not have the contract.

Yep hearing the same thing lately. Sounds like a little political interference being created by a certain BC Firefighting company.

Perhaps someone from Conair can comment on which one of the two bid lists they are using?

Once these contracts are awarded, its difficult to reverse decisions. Maybe someone in BCFS or "used to be" BCFS in the private sector now can comment on the political motives here.
I could see hiring arcross the board in the western provinces for the private companies, there seems to be alot going on in Canada and south.

Magic Wand, do you mean that in a good or bad way?

Means the guys usually get booted out the door, kicking and screaming, at age 65. Unless they're unhealthy, croak or quit.
