Ottawa Aviation services

Post by fai_saudagar »

Hi guys I am Faizan from India and i have completed my Bachelors in Automobile Engineering and now planing to come to Canada for my flight Training (pilot training) actually my question was do I get a work permit after my training and if yes for how long?
Also there's a flight school named " Ottawa Aviation services " in Ontario which is offering a structured course named iATPL which is of (18-20months) what are its chances of getting me a work permit and one of their agents here in India said that I can directly apply for a PR after 6months of start of my course. Is it true or possible?

No, there is no work permit automatically issued after any education taken in Canada.

Flight training units have no connection with immigration.

Is there a Canadian embassy near you? They would be a good place to ask about how to apply for a work permit.

I am not an immigration lawyer, but this doesn't sound right to me. Immigrating to Canada is not easy and this offer seems too good to be true.

You most definitely cannot get PR with enrollment in a flight school. There are strict conditions to obtain a PR. Work permits are a different story, especially if you have a study permit. There are limitations, though. Aside from immigration stuff, from what I understand, you cannot legally be promised a job as a result of attending a school. For example, they cannot tell you, "if you go to our flight school, you can work here as an instructor." If it ain't on paper it ain't gonna happen. And they aren't going to put it on paper.
Another thing, if you are asked for money up front, don't do it. If you become unhappy with your training you will never see your money again. If you have to do hours and hours of simulator before touching an airplane, rethink your options. This isn't particular to OAS, but it is a new trend in training that you should be wary of. Unfortunately it doesn't match the reality of having to log actual aircraft time to meet licensing requirements.

Go to Cic.gc.ca for answers you might be looking for about immigration.

As Pop N Fresh mentioned, your best bet is to find a Canadian embassy and ask them about the work permit. A word of caution, I knew many, many Indians during my university studies here in Canada who incorrectly assumed they would receive work permits immediately after obtaining their degrees. Most of them were forced to go home immediately afterwards.

Wow,
I wonder if this Indian poster is for real and if the post was simply bait for a response.

1. As I understand it, You cant use study or training time towards time in Canada working to obtain Permanent Resident Status.

2. Get a legal work permit and after 12 months full time, aka 2000 hours and you can apply providing
every requirement is met.

Of course it helps if marry a Canadian or have a relative arrange a special job for you that no Canadian will take.

And that goes on all the time.

Word of warning
Certain individuals regularly start Flight Schools and go broke after collecting large up front fees.

I think most started as flight instructors!

Good luck!

I don't know anything about the immigration
paperwork process, but I do know that in the
Eastern Ontario region, all of the following
flight schools near CYOW:

Ottawa Aviation Services
Ottawa Flying Club
Rockcliffe Flying Club
Cornwall Aviation

have been around for many years and all are
solid outfits that I would (and have) recommended
students to do flight training at.

I heard a rumour that Rockcliff Flying Club and OAS have had their authority to teach CPL courses taken away by the Education Ministry. Is this true ?

Very close to getting straightened out now. Nothing but a paperwork snafu, which, as we all know, is much more important and consequential than flying airplanes.

OAS has been fine, however OFC I believe had a very temporary issue along the same lines...just had to have I's and T's dotted and crossed.

I am no expert on immigration, but I am pretty familiar with the schools in the Ottawa Area, at least the ones which have been around for a while...namely Ottawa Flying Club, Ottawa Aviation Services, Rockliffe Flying Club and Cornwall Aviation. I would not hesitate to recommend any of them to a potential student.

I know for a fact having brought the immigration comments from this forum to some friends who fly at OAS, that OAS does not make any promises as are mentioned here nor do they have an "agent" in India.

The facts are that students can apply for a work permit after graduation and work here for as long as they trained here, but no Permanent Residentcy

I suspect that this post was a diversionary one from a particular school across the river whose owner
has left a trail of schools / where students from India paid up front and each time the school collapses and
takes flight again under a new name somewhere else.
