Just a quick I told you so about doctors
Saw this today and couldn't help posting it. I can't remember which thread it was or who called me out on it but here it is. Unemployed and under employed doctors despite the fact that we have a shortage in the hospitals and a need for faster medical care.

Oh ...... for sure. Just wait until I can find some articles about all of the unpaid interns with four year degrees. Not people with liberal-arts degrees in Bhutanese funeral music either, but MBAs and Engineers.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

A large part of this issue is that there is limited funding available for hostitals for procedures. For instance a hospital may only be funded for X number of knee replacements, cataracts, etc per year regardless of the demand. This means the doctors are somewhat like pilots in that they can't get the hands on surgury time to stay current. In these cases many decisde to move to jurisdictions where they can get to do more procedures. We have a local doctor here that is only in his Ontario practice 2 weeks a month. The other 2 weeks are spent in Buffalo.

Its all a matter of prospective and a lot of people in aviation dont really know whats going on outside.
I got into flying due to being laid off and unemployed for a year with zero job offers. Oh yeah I was offered unpaid internships. Which are awesome. Thats with a diploma a degree and 5 years working experience in the field.
It sucks at the bottom of most industries these days. Big time.

Another problem may be that there is work for many of these doctors, but, they would prefer to work in urban areas and not necessarily where the demand for doctors really exist, in Northern and remote areas.

Yep...... just like the fresh CPL with 250 hours and a Group 1 Multi Engine IFR and IATRA written doesn't want to go to Fort Nowhere to ramp for six months to get a shot at a 206...... neither does the new Neurosurgeon want to be a GP in the same place.

The big difference is these unemployed doctors aren't emptying bed pans while they wait for their chance to prove themselves.
Take my love
Take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
You cannot take the sky from me

Re: Just a quick I told you so about doctors
Many people think the medical profession would be much improved if they were forced to do just that.
As far as groups of insufferably self-important, stroppy and fractious people, doctors come a close second only to pilots.

DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.

Just go to the veterinarian instead of waiting around. Pretty much the same training. More pill size variety.opening post news headline wrote:More doctors without jobs as Canadians face long wait times
" Yeah, doc...my dog has this cough, and a pain in his side......he couldn't come with me today because...uh...oh yeah my wife took him to obedience school.......so....what do you think it could be? "
You have to keep switching vets, though, there's only so many excuses you can come up with for an absent dog.

Well if they could if they just get a nurse's aid endorsement and sign a bond...Lurch wrote:The big difference is these unemployed doctors aren't emptying bed pans while they wait for their chance to prove themselves.
