Ok, this is really weird. I am not making
the following up.

99.999% of the float ratings performed in
Canada are single-engine-sea (SES). There
is a very simple reason why.

99.999% of PPL's will have single-engine-land
(SEL). If either before or after they get their
SES, they get their MEL, then MES comes for free.

Summary: if you have SES and MEL then you
automatically have MES even if you've never
even seen one before.

The reason? Legislation is knee-jerk accident
(and politically) driven. People aren't crashing
MES all over Canada or embarrassing the Minister
in Question Period about it, so there you are.

"ASAP" won't work well in most of Canada, so look in southern BC first if you're in a hurry. In Ontario, I highly recommend Lake Country Airways, in Orillia Lake Stain John. Great instructors, and lots of varied places to do water work nearby, with little air traffic competing for the sky around you.

a stain in Lake Orillia?

I suspect though that the "system" is also working in that no one ever gets into a MES before doing a lot of time in a SES. There is also the possibility that flying Multi Engine airplanes just isn't all that difficult. At least if one has a reasonable amount of experience flying single engine airplanes.

First time I flew a multi-engine seaplane, I
didn't have a checkout. Nothing. I just
jumped in and went. Had never flown MES
before. Worked out ok, I guess.

The key is to get the second engine started before you do a complete 180.... or use the first engine to get up to Vmcw* before trying the other one.

*might be a fictitious term...

As mentioned by others, you are unlikely to find MES initial training here.
Why do you want that seaplane rating? If you want more than just a paper, I recommend Peter Grimm at CYPK.

Good luck,

I did mine at air-hart aviation in Kelowna, Great instructors and owners. Not sure what happened with the 180 situation but 5 days after I left some student put her into the drink on his solo,

Was that recently Greenie? I did my rating on the 180 last November (and no I brought her back just fine after my solo :). I do agree, top quality owners and instructors. Pretty good group of students also.

David at Oceanair in Victoria. Amazing to do training in and around the coast. Make sure to fly to Ganges for coffee and Ghost lake.

Check out Tim Parker at Sandpiper Air/Pat Bay Air in Victoria. Great rates and amazing views out on the west coast.
