Re: Cat & Doc
Doc was banned, although I'm pretty sure still watches.. Cat doesn't bother with Avcan, but can be found on PPRUNE occasionally
Re: Cat & Doc
I've seen Cat over at PPrune recently. I don't think Doc ever left.. more like he went incognito, but still easily found wherever landing gear have failed to extend when they ought to have.
Speaking of missing persons, Beefitarian hasn't been nearly as much fun since he purportedly got a job.

Edited to again to read: Apologies for speculating that one anonymous ID might be related to another anonymous ID... and for not realizing that by doing so would somehow compromise the anonymity of said users....
VVV even though it is okay for Pelmet to do so VVV
And one poster is responding to another poster's name for some reason....

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: Cat & Doc
Some people feel that Ilya is Doc. Who knows, but I used to get pm's from Doc on a random basis about a thread subject that I had posted on, even if we had had a recent strong disagreement. I did get one of these pop-up pm's from Ilya recently, and from reading his posts....there is a striking similarity. But that is just a gut feeling. I'm sure said poster could clarify for us. Not sure of the reason for being banned, perhaps someone could fill us in on the details.
Cat got frustrated rightly or wrongly with many posters on the forum and announced(as he had done several times before) that he was leaving for good. But this time it appears that he is maintaining his vow for a longer time period. I have seen him posting on PPRUNE under his stated real name.

It is pretty easy to get discouraged if you make the mistake of believing that the typical "AvCanada" personality is indicative of the personality of the typical pilot in real life. Something about the internet turns people into jerks, including those two guys sometimes.

Re: Cat & Doc
Lots of posters stopped after the Misc/Watercooler got shut down. Actually it was nice in some ways.... I was wondering if some of those posters were even involved in aviation.

Re: Cat & Doc
I for one miss Cat and Doc's contribution to this board. Maybe some feelings got hurt once in a while but come on now, were we all raised by single moms?
This forums has the fraction of interesting post it used to have and it is becoming a site for job seekers.
This forum got "Canadianized" read, turned into a big Gine!!

Re: Cat & Doc
In today's politically correct world (includingSomething about the internet turns people into jerks
this website) not tolerating fools gladly is
considered a mortal sin. Far worse than
crashing an airplane.
Youngsters are especially fond of judging
their elders, in this regard. It is considered
cruicial that the valuable lessons of experience
are always heavily candy-coated for maximum
enjoyment, like a soccer game without a score.
Without this candy coating, the lessons of
experience are considered worthless, and are
tossed on the trash heap, like Cat and Doc.
Without these lessons, the youngsters often
crash (with really mundane causes, like leaving
the gear up). Incredibly, these avoidable crashes
are considered "learning experiences".
If one does not drink this particular new-age
Koolaid (as Cat and Leadsled and Doc did not),
they are not welcome in places such as this.

Re: Cat & Doc
Personally I think Avcanada is better than ever. The moderators have IMO done a much better job of reining in the vicious personal attacks, hate filled rants, and posts which serve no purpose other than to insult and demean. If a few big Ego's could not adapt well then too bad for them.

No lets exchange aviation related thoughts, ideas, and opinions in a polite, reasonable and rational way. Being a jerk on a anonymous internet forum is a choice you don't have to make...... Re: Cat & Doc
The youngsters lack perspective, but the
world (and Canada) has changed enormously
even in the last 25 years, and certainly in
the last 50 years.
Both of my long-dead grandfathers fought in
the first world war, and if they were alive today,
it would be a fair statement to say that they
would be puzzled, baffled and revolted by what
is taken for granted today. Their sense of
disenfranchisement would be profound. The
youngsters might be offended by this.
This won't make any sense to the youngsters,
but I tried.

BPF: To some extent I agree with you. The personal attacks were getting old but on the other hand you were FREE not to read them.
I thik their contibution and knowledge outweighed the hurt feelings.
Now we are left with a watered down forum but at least nobody is exposed to debauchery...

CF: I consider it blindingly obvious that
when one consciously chooses to only learn
candy-coated lessons, one is choosing to
miss out on an awful lot of information.
That lost information can make the difference
between living and dying. Incredibly, this
is considered unimportant.
Remember, those that refuse to learn from
the lessons of history, are doomed to relive it.

Re: Cat & Doc
I too find the forum rather boring these days. Bring back Captain Sweet and Juicy. Now there's a guy who could stir up emotion. I rarely laugh anymore while reading posts here. It used to be fun. But then I too am riding strike something. It's basically just a love in now. This thread will be locked soon, or just deleted. Somebody better say airplane soon...

I just don't see a lot of evidence to support your contention that the majority of Avcanada readers and posters see the "unimportance" of the aviation fundamentals.

I did not see a lot of contributions that readers could actually use. I did see a lot of "contributions" that seemed solely designed to denigrate and humiliate.....
