With summer, dare I say it, winding down, it is time I start looking for my next job. I’m currently working in a seasonal position flying 182, 206 and should reach around 500tt with 100 multi and 225 PIC by snowfall. My question to the wise aviators that have come before me is, what is my next step? I have CPL w/SMELS and MIFR, and I’m wondering what companies are; hiring, take guys with 500hrs etc. Any pointers, tips, tricks, DM are always welcomed...

Go on poggie for the winter, than return to your current position next year.

After that I would start looking, bush time is the best time you can get. At 500 hours your still not that marketable, yet you have a job I wish I could have and your building real PIC time. I miss floats!!!!!

In my honest opinion, if you are happy where you are now and by the end of the season your boss asks you if you're in next year, I'd gladly accept the offer and work out some better conditions down the road.

My understanding is that at 500TT you're not overly marketable. Though it's often the minimum for MNR and such co pilot requirements it doesn't make you all that attractive to employers. Sometimes a co pilot gig will pop up at 500 hours, but I wouldn't bank on that.

I remember Thunder was only offering a ground position as a CSS for guys with 500TT. Not sure how much success they had with it. WestWind is looking for 800 hours which seems like an arbitrary number, but that's besides the point.

My suggestion is to do another season with the job you have especially if you're happy with the company.
