Algerian aviation authorities have lost contact with an Air Algerie aircraft carrying 110 passengers over Africa, according to reports.

Spanish private airline company Swiftair confirmed to the Reuters news agency that it had no contact with its MD-83 aircraft operated by Air Algerie, which it said was carrying 110 passengers and six crew.

An Algieran official had earlier said it was an Airbus A320.

Flight AH5017 was en route from from Ouagadougou in west African country Burkina Faso to Algiers, Algeria.

Air Algerie said an "emergency plan" had been initiated.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Sounds like they should have delayed the flight for weather.

This week has been brutal. Stay safe out there everyone.

Interesting. I wonder if this "Stage 4" hush kit has been around long? Could it have contributed to the event in heavy rain conditions? Any MD80 people know anything about this hush kit STC?

Wow, another one toast. I wonder what the travelling public thinks of the safety of the airline industry these days? Oh, I know, Canada has a stellar record, that is if you don't count the outrageous 737 crash at Resolute and a few notable screw ups here and there, but I am talking world wide.
