YWG Herc crews

I was flying along the other night into Winnipeg just north of Gimli and this unreal light came on over lake Winnipeg. I asked center what was going on and they said it was a Herc training over the lake... This thing was amazing, I don't think it was a flare, but more of a spotlight. The power was incredible, it lit up the surrounding clouds like flying over Winnipeg on an overcast night. Just curious of the power of the light and where it is mounted on the herc??

It's a flare. 2 million candle power. It was notam'd under gimli.

Edit: magnesium flare; for god sakes don't fly under it
