Waterbombers in action

Post by badmash »

Is it possible to find information on where the waterbombers are in action? I did think of NOTAMs on forest fires but there isnt one going out always, and where do they pick up water from ?

Pretty hard to get info because they never know where until they are dispatched. Could be anywhere, anytime and in most cases are only there for a short period of time. They get water from the nearest water source to the fire so that could be any lake or river in Canada.

The MNR still puts on an annual display at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.

It takes place during their Bushplane Days festival or whatever. It's usually in September

Badmash that was taken on Rabbit Lake in Kenora a few years ago. Kids lit a fire right in town and we got sent to it. Photographer was just at the right place at the right time. She did get some beautiful shots!

Anyone planning to visit the Soo should PM me. We could do a "meetup" and drink BEvERageS.

The Waterbombers also do their spring training downtown, so you'll often get a decent look at them downtown if you're out for a walk on a nice day. I got a video of them scooping in the St. Mary's this year - so cool to see. We can't convince them to douse the field at the airport anymore though. Something about water being heavy.
