That’s a partner with deep pockets, sure looks like terminal 2.0 has a shot at success. When the dust settles in a few years, I see AC, WJ, Porter and Transat still standing. I don’t see Jetlines, Lynx at all and maybe Flair 25 but certainly not Flair 50. Just my humble opinion.Aviationanalysis234 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 9:00 am Big news from Porter.

CYMX was an abject failure from a passenger travel perspective.
CYHU will be an attempt to create an alternative hub to CYUL. It will definitely attract catchment from the south shore and eastern townships. Exact same distance from downtown as Trudeau, but Trudeau is getting a rail link.
Likely it will be an operational success for POE. It will dominate the alternative municipal hub just as it does at CYTZ.
Issues will be attracting US Customs pre clearance facility, and overseas connectivity (TRZ interline). Nobody will want to travel CYHU-CYUL or vice versa via ground transport.
It is a big deal for Montreal given the monopoly at CYUL and the train wreck at CYMX.

With construction soon to break ground, when is porter planning to have actual pilot base in yul/yhu?
I thought I heard a base starting August '23 but I must be wrong since I can't find reference to that anywhere I looked.
Thanks!

As CaptDuke said YUL opens Aug 1st but unless you’re a E2 DEC with training and checking abilities (or whatever the other special privilege the two that got it have) you wont be able to get there as the expansions plans are already “on hold”afterburner&smoke wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 10:10 am With construction soon to break ground, when is porter planning to have actual pilot base in yul/yhu?

Any chance you'd be able to provide the reason why plans are on hold already?
If due to staff shortage, that should be taken care of with the new contract I believe.

No idea. Management wont explain or give a timeline (understandable). Rumour is the base was opened prematurely because thats the only way SR could get his Jazz buddies to come over.
But ya we currently have a YUL base that only has a few E2 CAs in them. I would most definitely treat it as a dangling carrot so far.

Re: Porter partners with Macquarie!
Regardless of whether or not this terminal has pre-clearance, it's more about capturing domestic traffic (YYZ, YOW, YYC, etc) that could easily transit to YUL for any needed transfers.
Similar to LGA-JFK
Porter runs multi facet ----
Control the equipment (planes)
Control the land (slots / terminal)
Control the seats (flights)
If they can run at 80-85% capacity regardless of transborder issues and keep their CASM reasonable, they can be fine.
They wouldn't invest in building the terminal if they didn't have other offsets (rents, merchandise from vendors, etc).
