Switching doctors/reminders

Post by avcraig »

Hi, if I would like to switch CAMEs for my Aviation Medical would I need to ask my current CAME first and get him/her to send all previous info over to the new CAME? Or can I just go to the new one and they can gain access to all my previous renewals info through an online system?

Also, a little unrelated but are CAME’s responsible for calling people when it is time for renewal or is it all up to the applicant to call and book an appointment?

Seeing how most family doctors (and seeing how many a CAME is a family doctor...) have largely done away with physical files/charts, you don't really need to worry about having things mailed or faxed onwards. If you want to call your previous CAME's office and have them transfer your "chart" go for it, but the new office can also request it from the old if it is required - and if you give them permission, or it is required. For a run of the mill renewal with no major medical concerns, odds are you won't need anything from the previous CAME.

Also, TC has done away with paper forms for renewals and everything is being done online; so odds are the average CAME can look up your TC file already.

I've never heard of a CAME, or their office for that matter, paying much if any attention to their aviation patients on an ongoing basis - unless you are a complex case. A large majority of pilots are very much transients when it comes to availing themselves of a CAME's services, which is why when you hear a CAME state that they are refusing new "patients" it's absolutely laughable as "new patients" are their bread and butter. You're on your own when it comes to remembering to renew at the correct interval for your licence...
