Surgery

Post by CRJ900 »

Hello All,

I have completed my CAT 1 examination at CAME in October, I got a letter from TC stating due to history of kidney stones, consult an urologist and eliminate no kidney stones are present at the moment. I did a CT scan and found out I do have kidney stones, I went through the surgery to remove it. What should be the next steps ?

Thanks.

Did you have just one stone or more than one, and where exactly were it/they stationed?

I would expect that TC would want to hear from the Urologist as well as receiving a copy of a post-op CT.

Once you have had a few stones in the past, chances are that you will likely have more in the future and therefore apart from doing what the urologist may suggest to prevent or minimize the occurrence of more stones, you could stay ahead of the game by monitoring your urine for the presence of invisible blood by testing with an appropriate dip stick. Dollars to doughnuts, if there is microscopic blood in the urine, with that history, it may well tell you that there may be new stones in the making, and you could consult your doctor as to how to proceed... If TC notices micro presence of blood in the urine of a future exam, they will ask for another CT scan etc.

Keep in mind that any blood in the urine, even in your case, does not mean that it is due to stones, and all other possibilities should be excluded every single time. Infections, cancer of the bladder, kidney , prostate and more, can present with blood in the urine, no matter how minute the amount.
