Agreed. AC will always be around in some capacity, in terms of a long-term, stable career; It really cannot be beat. That being said, it is certainly only a suitable airline for 20-somethings living at home in the most expensive cities on the planet. If you have a family and a mortgage, there are lots of other airlines paying more to start out your career somewhere else. Lifestyle first and foremost.Landingstrip wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 9:19 am It may not be the best decision for everyone, but how can you not see any allure to AC? variety of flying, pension, long term pay and stability just to name a few reasons.

Which airlines would those be? I don't know of a single Canadian 705 that would start their FOs in the 6 figures which in my opinion is the minimum household income to survive near YYZ/YVR.lowoleo22 wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 9:19 amAgreed. Re: Why everyone runs to AC?
If I was ten years younger I would make the jump. I just turned down an interview at AC to stay as an ATR Captain at 5T because the pay cut, base and all that would be such a step back at 40 that I can’t do it. I want to buy a house in Edmonton and settle there so 5T checks those boxes for me, and AC would be (another) pay cut, and then commuting to work every few days would get old real fast.lowoleo22 wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 9:19 amAgreed. Hopefully their next contract is great, because it brings every one up with them!

Wanted: sugar momma/daddy.
Must be wanting an airline pilots for arm candy. I don't make enough money working at Canada's flag carrier to support myself at my home base.

Lots of other options besides living in YYZ/YVR:Ash Ketchum wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 10:31 amWhich airlines would those be? Flair $90,000 Year 1, excellent salary to live in YKF
Morningside $89,849 Year 1
Air Sprint $80,000 Year 1
Cargojet $77,286, not bad for YHM
Westjet $76,260, affordable in YEG or YWG
Porter E2 $76,500 Year 1, leaves a bit to be desired
I agree $100k should be the minimum. My point is not everyone needs to provide free labour to AC. There are plenty of other options out there.

Re: Why everyone runs to AC?
It can be really puzzling when people seem to prefer one airline over another, especially when it doesn't seem obvious. Maybe there's something specific about AC that draws people in, like their service or routes.
Re: Why everyone runs to AC?
It really depends.
For some people, if you have a young family you might not be willing to trade a good schedule, flying block, decent pay for a crack shack in a concrete jungle, reserve and flat pay, regardless of if it gets better at year 5, so for these guys, they might as well stay at Porter/WG/Cargojet/corporate etc.
Also junior NB capt at AC while decently paid, is a shit schedule for a long time.
AC has pension and job stability, if you’re young, single and don’t mind relocating then it’s certainly the better place. Personally, I’m done paying out of pocket to fly.
