AC pilots, whats your part time job?
Given that this new contract gives 12 year captains a raise worth 30% more than you make in a year, what part time job are you working/planning to work to be able to afford to live.
Re: AC pilots, whats your part time job?
To be clear, I am not at Air Canada. I couldn’t afford to go there. The TA is a flop but your posts make it appear that you have some serious misdirected anger. I’ll agree 100% that the pay is way too low at the bottom but you sound like you think it should have been taken from the top to be given to you. That is incredibly short sighted. Go fight for more but don’t take it out on the guys who are on the top of the scale. That’s likely where you will spend most of your career as well.
Re: AC pilots, whats your part time job?
Perhaps I should be clear then. I am also not at Air Canada. It's bad enough that I have to fly with them as a passenger. The only anger I have would better be described as frustration and disappointment. This hurt the whole industry. Anger is too strong of a word though.ant_321 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:43 pmTo be clear, I am not at Air Canada. I couldn’t afford to go there. I also never said it should be taken from the top and given to me. Nothing would be given to me cause I don't work there. I also never said it should be taken from the top and given to the bottom. If you did read my posts I did suggest that even split of the overall gains would have been a good idea likely palatable by many. I did say that IF one group had to get the whole gain it certainly shouldnt be the group at the top making 250k+.
I think the gain should be equally distributed. 20k extra the bottom, and 100k extra to the top is pretty sick when the bottom doesn't even make close to 100k in total.
I made the poll partly for a laugh (obviously) because if you can't laugh at this thing, you'll have to cry. It has to be the most egregious insult to young pilots at a company I have ever seen because it rewards some so heavily and others barely at all. If it were 20k across the board you wouldn't hear much from me. The fact that the money was there and this is how they distributed it makes me a bit queezy.
Re: AC pilots, whats your part time job?
I’d be willing to bet that OP was PFO’d from Air Canada one at least one occasion and very bitter.ant_321 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:43 pmTo be clear, I am not at Air Canada. I've never applied to Air Canada. And unless the FOs get a livable starting wage, i never will. Even if they did its likely i never will. I got PFO'd from WJ a couple years ago but I only had 30 multi piston hours at the time so it makes sense. I haven't tried again with my current jet time. I also got CTd at Nav Can 6 years ago from IFR. Any other failures of mine you want to know about. I'm not shy. Why would I lie?
Not sure what you were trying to get at with that attempted dig but nice try...

I know it hasn't been a secret for a long time. But the general sentiment at AC is that those on the outside are there because they can't get in.khedrei wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 4:14 pmHahaha that's funny.

The guys on the top of the scale are going to be the ones eagerly voting for this dumpster fire.ant_321 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:43 pmTo be clear, I am not at Air Canada. I hope they get the talent and motivation they deserve sitting next to them.

That may be true in general. Not in my case.Tbayer2021 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:04 pmI know it hasn't been a secret for a long time. But the general sentiment at AC is that those on the outside are there because they can't get in.khedrei wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 4:14 pmHahaha that's funny.

Re: AC pilots, whats your part time job?
That's pretty presumptuous and egotistical. Lots of us can't afford to support our families and live on the abysmal pay for the first couple years. So you're right, I can't get in, not because I was PFO'd, but because I never applied and can't afford to "get in". Until 1st year FO pay is 150 grand+, AC won't see my resume.Tbayer2021 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:04 pmI know it hasn't been a secret for a long time. Unless you are a Class A fuckup they will take almost anybody. In fact it seems if you’ve wrecked an aircraft or you’re (more) neurodivergent (than the average pilot) you have an even better chance of getting hired.
I had my offer and rejected it because I couldn’t bring myself to commute across the country and live in a crash pad in YYZ for $50k. Shit like COVID and the current woes only reinforces it.

My parents said they will stop giving me money after this new world class contract, I'm starting to worry, got to find a real job now can't live off line of credit forever. Surely even being a truck driver pays more than AC these days.
Re: AC pilots, whats your part time job?
FOs don't need to be paid because soon they will be Captains making big bucks!

It is extremely presumptuous and egotistical. I couldn't count the number of times I've heard an AC pilot ask a non AC pilot, "So have you applied to AC?". Even when the other pilot already works at another large 705. Many just cannot wrap their heads around someone being happy with their non AC employment.

From the survey above and CBA among carriers, it appears Flair is now Canada's flag carrier. Good job Flair for raising the bar!

We should totally change our name to "Flair Canada".AirCandida wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:33 am From the survey above and CBA among carriers, it appears Flair is now Canada's flag carrier. Good job Flair for raising the bar!

I think the avcan echo chamber is full of people applying common sense to the TA and though it sounds like the vocal majority is not happy with this, I believe it will pass (unfortunately). Flair's LOU5 was the same way. All the polls we ran, and all the discussions were mostly unhappy about having to work harder, and having to give up paid sick days to get a pay raise, and then push came to shove, and a pay raise is a pay raise, and that sentiment won out. (again unfortunately IMO)
Re: AC pilots, whats your part time job?
Oh absolutely and it won't be that close. 65/35 is my bet, might even go 70/30 if they push this thing hard on the roadshows.co-joe wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:49 amWe should totally change our name to "Flair Canada".AirCandida wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:33 am From the survey above and CBA among carriers, it appears Flair is now Canada's flag carrier.
