New Chinese stealth fighter
At first I was thinking it was fake news but the more I look, the more I see it appears real. Very interesting and I can only hope the US is in secret development for matching or better technology, there is some information about the US and 6th gen fighters but nothing concrete.
Three engines and potentially edge of space long range stealth bomber, not good for North America!

In fewer than 24 hours on Thursday, two Chinese airplane-makers revealed new stealth fighter demonstrators. And not just any demonstrators. The separate designs from airframers Chengdu and Shenyang may be among the most sophisticated manned fighters ever

The choice of 3 engines is peculiar. I remember reading the Chinese have struggled with designing and manufacturing comparable jet engines to the west. Maybe it has something to do with that?
Certainly an interesting development. I wonder if this is going to lead to another Mig-25/F-15 situation.

I certainly hope someone in the US is still making cool secret stuff somewhere but maybe they have fully committed to drones. Makes sense to switch since even F-16s are beyond the capabilities of human physiology.
I still think Canada should build a few hundred analog A-10 variants for maritime border patrol. I know we’re broke and it’ll never happen but…

I hope so too! Its no secret that the US has always led the world in fighter development. I can't wait to see their response to all of these new Chinese birds. Of course, the US could be so far ahead of the rest of the world that their response may not seem visually impressive to onlookers. Like you said, they may have very well already designed their last manned fighter.
I was curious and looked up the strength of the PLAAF and was surprised by how low it was. They are currently still a very long ways away from challenging the US from a numbers perspective. Part of me still thinks most indigenous equipment coming out of China is closer to soviet hardware in terms of efficacy. But that's something that can only ever be shown in symmetrical warfare.

Near 77…..
200….probably stupid. There. Probably.
But Still see triple digit oil prices inbound, OR a deep recession before they happen.
And maybe one, then the other, and I can’t say I am sure which happens first.
Oil is STUPID cheap in historical inflation adjusted terms. No one wants to drill at 77.

The US launched their sixth-generation program in 2008, and announced that it flew in 2020. Other programs are in development by Japan, the UK, and a consortium of France, Germany, and Spain. The only people who think the West has been caught with its pants down just haven't been paying attention.

Re: New Chinese stealth fighter
China now has 3 aircraft carriers + one under construction, this one a supercarrier comparable to the latest class of US carriers. They plan on building 4 of these.
Still way behind the US (11 + 3 under construction) but on the other hand the common view to dismiss China as third world or Russia - level at best vs the US is looking increasingly stupid as time marches forward.
There is increasing pressure that will come for the US to cut their bloated deficits. Social Security and Defence will be under the microscope.
Which do you think entitled Boomers will vote for?

Ah yes, those entitled boomers, terrible that they expect a pension from a pension fund they have contributed to thru their entire working life. How selfish of them.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 1:24 pm There is increasing pressure that will come for the US to cut their bloated deficits. Under-contributed to. Fixed your sentence. I am very close to a Boomer in age, BTW, just off the tail end.goldeneagle wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:14 pmAh yes, those entitled boomers, terrible that they expect a pension from a pension fund they have contributed to thru their entire working life. Look, I get that you’re in the camp that its the lazy kids fault they can’t afford today’s tax rates and 2 million bucks for a BC shack, we should stick them with the problem because “we’ve worked all our lives” — entitled statement premiere — but as a fellow pilot, you should get math.
This is just math. There are many sources for our problems, but weak and entitled Boomer leadership, pandering for Boomer votes, is the key one.

Actually if it wasn't for Chretien and martin(stealing) taking the EI and CPP surpluses to dump into general revenue those programs would be mostly self supporting. But by all means give our veterans and seniors less than some illegal immigrant. BTW not against migrants, just the illegal ones.

B— Veterans and Seniors are 2 very different categories.
C — Boomer retirees aren’t poor — as a whole. They control a vast amount of disposable wealth and real estate. Due to deliberate policy decisions to inflate asset prices.

Re: New Chinese stealth fighter
I'm curious rookie, when was the last time you did a US payroll and looked at the SS deductions ? I'll give you some numbers from the most recent one I signed off on for our employees south of the border. We withhold 6.4% of the gross income for the SS submission, which is matched by employer funds, so the submission is 12.8% of the income. If 12.8% is 'under contributing', please enlighten us with your financial wisdom, just how much of one's income should be saved for retirement if one is investing it even in low risk situations ?rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 7:49 pm Under-contributed to. But that leads to the real issue with the US system, Social Security is sold to the victims as a 'pension', but it's not managed like a pension fund should be managed. They collect the 12.8% from all working folks, then disperse the amounts necessary to those drawing. A real pension fund would invest the difference so there is a buffer for times when the draws exceed the income, but they dont do that down there. The federal government has drained the SS kitty more than once to fund various projects on the guise of 'worry about it when the payments come due'. It's basically a system where the income from the new enrollees is paying out the long time enrollees, for reference, go read up on how a ponzi scheme works. The real issue coming to light for many with the US system, the writing is slowly becoming clear on the wall, with all the blue collar manufacturing long shipped overseas, the new folks coming in wont be contributing enough to cover the payments for those reaching eligibility, and there is no investment fund in place to cover the difference.
So I ask again, if 12.8% of your income is 'under contributing', just how much do you think is reasonable ?

I know — math is really hard.
Look at the worker to retiree ratio now, vs say 1950. Or 1960, or 1970, or 1980.
Then look at life expectancy, then look at the retirement age just sitting there.
Yeah, in light of all that, and weak leadership, management, government, that people willingly chose to elect — under contributed is correct.

Re: New Chinese stealth fighter
How did we tie boomers house prices to a Chinese stealth plane?
I think even TEMU discussions would be more relevant

Happy Thursday! I deleted a bunch of offtopic crap. I should have probably deleted the boomer house prices stuff too but it's actually a lot of work to delete stuff on these forums, I have to delete each post individually and it takes a few clicks for each post.
Let's try to keep it on topic!
