Flight instructor job waterloo area? Advice needed!
I will be graduating and finished my instructor rating and bachelors degree may/07. Im looking to move out to the Kitchner/waterloo area because i have a place to live there. Can anyone reccomend a good flight school to work in that area? I believe i would be willing to commute about 45 minutes from Waterloo to work for an ideal school but i would obvously prefer to be closer to home if possible. An ideal school for me to work at would be busy and give me lots of work, treat me with respect, and jsut basically have faith in me that i will be doing the best i can. Any adivce would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Spectrum - If you look at your own business, and do what the school has hired you to do...you won't have to worry about the CFI. The school is good, pays around $20/hr, and flexibility is very good in terms of time off and hours. (By the way - they are looking for Class 1,2,3 right now)
WFC in Kitchiner seems like a good outfit as well, good fleet, nice place to train out of.
Peninninsulair - they don't fly that much from what I was told from guys in there, but you get the twin flying much more often then at some of these other schools.

They have alot of International students right now and I'm sure they'll be looking for and extra instructor or two in the not so distant future. CFI is a great guy and there is more than enough to keep you busy. Large fleet of A/C including: 150,152,172,PA-41 and a Seneca. Two IFR sims.

Thanks for all the replies....so Spectrum seems pretty good if i can get a job there...and mig, does WFC stand for Waterloo Wellington flight center? i have heard some bad stuff about working there, but im not sure if its true. I just dont want to go somewhere i am going to be treated like garbage and never given any students.
Lost in rotation, is the school in Guelph called "aviation international"? I have looked at their website and they didnt seem like they would be that busy, but if you say they are they sound like a pretty good place to work.
Does anybody know anything about "alder aviation" out of Kitchner/Waterloo?

You're going to have to deal with a certain amount of BS when you work at any flight school (or any job for that matter). In terms of schools looking for instructors in that area.... they all are. Aviation International in Guelph is. My buddy that works there is doing well and has progressed well with his career. CFI is cool, owner is not too bad, maintainence is typical of a flight school. Brampton may be looking, and is a good place to work (CFI is a good guy and the fact that it is run by a board and not one owner keeps things fair in terms of who gets to do what). Maintainence is above average. Spectrum is OK, pay is low, CFI is not bad but the owner tends to play favourites. Maintainence is not stellar.

Yeah it's Adler (not alder if you were looking online and couldn't find) Aviation. Callsign 'shockwave'. They're mainly charter, not ftu last I heard. They fly twins (piston, turbo-prop, jet) all over the place. From what I understand they want pilots who can do the charter work, go cptn quickly as they have quite a bit of movement. But that info's about 2-3 yrs old now...

I was at the waterloo airport and all i saw was the other two flight schools..maybe i wasent looking hard enough because i only thought there were two until i found this website...Anyone know anymore about them?

Anyone else have more info or comments on the flight school in Guelph?...good/bad? busy/slow? good to work at/not good to work at? Also can anyone confirm that it is "aviation international" that is the flight school that is being mentioned...or is there another flight school or airport..Thanks again!

Occasionally private owners put their aircraft on the ftu roster. In the past this has included a Warrior, single Comanche and a Twin Comanche. Not sure on current fleet status.
Charter side includes light twin pistons. Instructors in the past have moved from the ftu side to the charter side, but don't assume this to be the "norm".
Extremely friendly atmosphere. Bosses don't force you to "hang-out" all day every day cleaning, etc.
Perhaps not as busy or easy to find as the other 2 ftu's at YKF, but a hidden gem in my opinion.

Yes, it is Aviation International. The web site is fairly old, so don't rely on it for too much info...It was old even before I heard of the place. The school has been very busy from what I hear. Some of the instructors have 3-4 full time international students. 3 may not sound like alot, but it's all they can handle in a day. 3 students flying 2x a day including ground work for a PPL and then a CPL will keep you fairly busy, plus what ever walks through the door.
I hate to say this to someone so far away....you just have to go there and meet the people, walk around and see the schools for yourself.

Adler Aviation in ykf is a small outfit, and have 1 C172 and I think it's 2 C150s. The personnel seems nice enough, but I wonder how busy you'd end up being there, and I suspect they don't need any instructors anyway.
The whole Kitchener Waterloo area is doing very well economically right now, and the volume of recreational flying has always been a direct relationship with the economic health of the region.
If you are set on this area, my suggestion would be to look at the WWFC and National Flyers Academy. I have no idea of the working relationship the instructors have with the management there, but they are both responsible professional outfits.
Rumor has it National is getting quite a few foreign students in May, so there's certainly an opportunity there if that rumors is true. I also hear there are 40 or so aircadets this summer getting their licenses. I believe they are split between National and Waterloo Flight Centre.
