What is the best way to approach a private owner of a 152 or 172 to rent his/her plane?
I am a PPL with 130 hours.

Offer to purchase a "block" of hours (eg 100) and also offer to pay an insurance policy which covers on the aircraft for several million dollars liability and hull-in-motion.
Always return the aircraft full of gas, with the windshield clean and no garbage left inside. It helps if you have a shiny (but not necessarily new) car that shows that you take care of stuff.
Get a checkout on that aircraft from a local instructor, then take the owner flying to make him happy about your stick & rudder skills.
Frankly, I think it's easier and a lot less trouble to get into the pants of an aircraft owner's wife.
