Re: Meadow Lake
all the basics, grocery store, liquor, restaurants, a pub or two, gym, and bowling. 5000 people. airport 5 mins from town.
Re: Meadow Lake
really quiet (read boring) family, farm oriented place.
houses are a mile apart from one another, not much going in there...
Have I described pretty much Saskatchewan???

How dare you slander all that is good and holy within the borders of Canada!
GET OUT!
Get out of the best province that is known to many as dear, sweet Saskatchewan!
If you're already out, STAY OUT!!!
LET'S GO RIDERS!
I only reside in Manitoba to keep a better watch on the Motherland, beer is cheaper here also. Go Riders!
QUACK!

Stop quacking...
You alone can make it the best or worst spot in the world.
I had fun when I was there, but wouldn't choose Meadow lake to spend the rest of my life.

Re: Meadow Lake
Thank you for the replies. 5000 is at least a bigger population than other spots I've been looking at (700-1200) and at least there's roads into and out of Meadow Lake I assume. I'll have to get the map out and take a look. I'm big into motorcyle riding so was wondering what it would be like in that area. I don't suppose there's any Cabot Trail (Cape Breton) caliber roads or a track nearby? I think I already know the answer

Re: Meadow Lake
Two hours away from Saskatoon, three from Lloydminster and five from Edmonton.
New CO-OP grocery store, Extra-Foods. Nice cafe, or at least there used to be, and the usual McDonalds, Subway, A&W, 7/11 etc. etc. etc.
Good luck in Saskazitan!

Re: Meadow Lake
You boys better stop making fun of Sakatchewan. With wheat at $12 per bushel, Saskie can buy the rest of Canada next fall. Sans Alberta of course. Then you'll change your tune. GO KANSAS!! GO Saskatchewan!!

Re: Meadow Lake
There's an "Irish" pub in the hotel on the north side of town called Darby O'rourke's. I don't recall anything overly Irish about it except that they had Guinness on tap, but you could get a schooner of Keiths for $6.95. I was drunk there a lot. It was awesome!!

BN will cause you nothing but stress. Better try LA first, but don't get your hopes high. Have you thought about Osprey in Otter? (north of LA).

Not sure what Osprey is but will look into it. I'm currently living in Charlottetown, PEI and fly in Moncton, NB on weekends so am not sure what to expect in SK if I go there. Thank you for the reply.

Re: Meadow Lake
You can expect to become a Rider fan real quick or face expulsion from our nation. Personally I love it here and really have no desire to live anywhere else. Maybe because it's been home for so many years and I've become accustomed to it. Cost of living is very reasonable and both cities have everything the bigger centers have. Excluding Ikea i suppose but who wants that cheap garbage. And if you like the mountains save yourself about $300000 on a house and use that money to travel to the mountains. $300000 buys a lot of West Jet tickets (quite a bit fewer AC tickets though). There is definitely a change of attitude in this province. A lot less people worried about feeding at the federal welfare trough and more people willing to go out and create some prosperity here. You could do a lot worse for yourself by living in say Manitoba where you would have to watch the stinky Bombers play and drink Labatt Blue. What kind of savage would drink that crap.skydivepilot wrote:Not sure what Osprey is but will look into it. Mountains are O.K. but they sure get in the way of the view.

I used to live in Sask. It's so flat there I watched my dog run away for 3 days!
Re: Meadow Lake
Less than half of Saskatchewan could be described as true prairie. Regardless, I find the people of Saskatchewan generally more amiable and certainly more trustworthy than, oh say, people I've met in Gastown or Stanley Park, or anywhere, anytime in Calgary. Here are a few things most folks in Naniamo don't know exist in Saskatchewan, namely the Canadian Shield, waterfalls, lakes, trees, and a pulp mill in Meadow Lake.

Re: Meadow Lake
i'll be the first to admit, it's a simply gorgeous pulp mill. check out the stacks.

Re: Meadow Lake
Though what they call a waterfall in saskatchewan would be a river or rapids in bc.
