Hi Jeremy,
Good on you for sticking up for yourself. Are you still working up there? Best of luck to you and I wouldn't worry about what people say on here, its just a tv show, which most of us really enjoy. There will always be armchair quarterbacks ragging on everthing they see. If I was starting out again I would love to work for buffalo. I believe you learnt a valuable lesson on the last episode flying with Joe. I bet that since then you have your maps and weather in order for your flights. That is what starting out as a pilot is all about you have situations, you learn from them and it makes you better at what you do.

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Welcome to the board Jeremy!
I think the vast majority of people on this site understand that this is all "made for tv". I dont think you have a piss poor attitude, infact, you have the perfect attitude for working north of 60. You obviously survived Joe and that speaks volumes about your character. Some people just dont understand what working in -40 is like. Congrats on the show and your first trip in the -3. My only question for you is are you still at Buffalo? If so, are you in the left seat of the -3 yet?
Great show and thanks for posting!
Fly safe all.

Now that that's out of the way, feel free to ask me to clarify anything in the show. Would be more than happy to help if I can.

Hi Jeremy,
Glad to see you post on here. Good for you on sticking up for yourself.
How many planes you guys got there. The episodes show some cessnas, a piper hanging in the hangar ect. You fly any of them or just the big stuff? Also what happend to Audrey, someone said she did not stick around?

If a pilot walked into a forest and had to make a decision, and no one from AVCANADA was there. Would the pilot still be wrong?

Hi Mr J
Good post i think most people on this site read into this show way to much.Of course the show is edited and it has to be in order to make it look apealing and entertaining for a TV audience.Only the juicy stuff that makes good viewing is the norm for the audience. Some people on here probally think CSI is for real.

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
The Support is much appreciated guys, thanks. I am not still at Buffalo. As happens often in the aviation industry, I was laid off due to the economy. Was with Buffalo for a year before that happened, and it happened about 3 months after the show stopped filming the first season. I am now working the ramp for another company.... starting at the bottom of the ladder again. For Buffalo I was fully trained for my PPC on the DC-3, but I never got my ride. I also did training on the DC-4, C-46, Baron, and a few small flights on the Norseman. Buffalo has a bunch of aircraft (I am not sure how many are officially in Joe's name) but his active aircraft include about 5 travelaires, 2 barons, a cessna 185, norseman, 2 C-46s, about 5-7 DC-4s (tough to tell because at least a couple of them are only pulled out for forest fire suppression in the summer, and you never see them brought up to yellowknife) about 6 DC-3s, 1 Turbine DC-3 (awaiting certification), 5 CL-215s, 3 King air 90s (bird dogs for the water bombers), 2 Canso waterbombers (not used, but they can be if the fire season goes nuts) and I think that's about it.
Audrey went back home for about 3 months but came back to buffalo and is flight attending again. My 2 roommates are the new DC-3 copilots, and I am still working hard for a pilot's seat. seems a long way away though. Already been ramping the north for a year and a half. Anything else you want to know, I will try to answer.

Hey Jeremy,
Good luck with your quest to get in the seat, and ply your trade.
Was wondering if you had to get a Canadian equivalent to the SAG (screen actors guild) card to work infront of the camera (heard that is the case for US reality tv)? Do you know if the program is going to be syndicated in the states? Also, did you get any say in how they edited your on screen sequences?
So if all us pilots enjoy watching this program where we live and work, what do the folks who worked on the show watch...
Regards,
CAL

Nope, the only thing we had to sign was a release of our image on camera. We did have some say on what made it back to the editors, but sometimes our wishes were....... misplaced. The only show I watch on a regular basis is Ice Pilots. Dont have a ton of time to watch TV. But I also dont know what's coming up each week. Apparently The States won't buy the show because it is "too Canadian". Gotta love it.

They say the DC2 was almost impossible to land well consitantly. The Airline Pilots were SO happy to see the DC3...canwhitewolf wrote:lotsa people in the USA screaming to watch the series for sure, I havnt seen a way yet to let some of my friends in the states watch it on computer but i guess there is a way

What? Wasn't Ice Road Truckers a success on their network? Or is it that they can associate 18-wheelers with their SUVs, but don't know what to think about aircraft? Maybe Buffalo needs an Islamist suicide bomber to get their attention.icepilotjeremy wrote:Apparently The States won't buy the show because it is "too Canadian". Gotta love it.

When you three point land a DC3 your height judgment has to be real good if you want consistent results.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

?
Better Directional Control In Cross Wind With 3 Point?
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Cat, I picked up a Racer in ATL. The CP took me for a circuit. It was the first wheel landing he'd seen?? I've done a three point or two, but only once or twice. These guys three pointed every time? Had to teach them to wheel land. Made for an interesting week.Cat Driver wrote:When you three point land a DC3 your height judgment has to be real good if you want consistent results.

No, directional control is far more difficult if you three point any tail wheel airplane and that includes a DC3.
Better Directional Control In Cross Wind With 3 Point?
Like Doc said doing a three point landing in the DC3 is very unusual and requires far more attention to how it is tracking down the runway at touch down than when wheel landing one.
I would venture a wild guess that I did not do more than one three point in every thousand landings because it is unorthodox for the DC3.

So, when DID you do this 3 Point? ( High Winds, Right?)
See, that's my theory. Strong enough Wind, your gonns 3 Point. ( Maybe, say, Prop, Wheel, Wing...lol )
I say, you have Better Directional Control 3 Point ....

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
I did get to fly a DC3 with X/wind gear on it and it was quite the weird feeling flaring and touching down with the airplane crabbing down the runway in a strong X/wind....really weird.
But the damn thing just rolled down the runway still crabbed into wind...it felt sort of like humping while you are laying at an angle to your partner.

OK, I only have 1500 hrs C185/Wheels, and couple hundred Cub Crop Spraying,
BUT...i say this.
STRONG enough wind, and you WILL 3 Point....

Too bad that dick measuring thread was deleted.
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
IF you watch any conventional gear airplane land in a strong cross wind, it will 3 Point. Why?Sam300 wrote:Got you beat by say 4000hrs but hey I guess your the expert
