AME E/b2 experience with the military?

Post by GSArora »

Hey, so I'm looking into becoming an AME Category E/B2.
The program I've been thinking of going into is at BCIT:
http://www.bcit.ca/study/programs/1045dipts

I want to do this through the Canadian Forces NCM-SEP program:
http://www.forces.ca/en/page/paideducat ... dcollege-2
For this trade:
http://www.forces.ca/en/job/avionicssys ... -47#info-1

So my question is:

I know theres the work experience portion to become fully licensed. I would recieve the equivalent of 18 months from the program, but would still need 30 more. Would working in the military after getting my diploma satisfy that? My service would be for ~5 years, give or take a couple of months. I've looked on the Transport Canada page, but I couldn't really figure out what it was saying

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

(P.S., not sure if this is the right place to post this question, sorry if it isn't)

You would need a minimum of six months experience on civil aircraft and have to write the cars exam before you would get your license. This could be increased to twelve months depending on how varied your experience was in the military.

Start here, by reviewing this:

Appendix “B”

http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/s ... b-2684.htm

Section 2 speaks to Military Experience

Section 3 speaks to Tasks completed on Military aircraft( i.e. must have a civilian Type Certificate to be eligible)

Thank you, those links were extremely helpful.

So Appendix B states that as long as I complete the military trade qualifications for avionics, I'll have the theory covered.
However, the program description on the BCIT site says that the college program also covers all of the necessary theory. I'm not totally sure how the military/college theory balance works, as there's no specific information on it.

Wouldn't the 18 months gained from BCIT satisfy the civilian aircraft requirement? About 50 percent of the work at BCIT is hands-on, so I would assume it would be enough. Well, at least I hope it's enough.

5.4 Experience Obtained While Attending School

Experience obtained in a part-time capacity during the period which the applicant was attending a full time accredited training course may not be counted towards the experience requirements for licence issue, unless this experience was obtained during the school semester hiatus (i.e. spring/summer break period). Experience obtained during the school break must be documented in accordance with requirements of STD 566 and this MSI.

It would cover the theory portion, but you would still need to complete the hands-on portion required after the military.
