Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
Hi,
Has anyone here tried to renew from off shore? Must be plenty of folks who need that service…I have an AME who renews the medical, so the "I know you" section on the renewal is covered…where would a guy send the paperwork?
Thanks

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
My booklet expired March 1st. Got a new
booklet, which unfortunately doesn't show
my medical from December for some
reason.
So, I guess I carry around two booklets
until next December, and hope that my
medical in my expired booklet is still
valid proof. Not sure why it would be,
because the licence in an expired booklet
isn't valid.
I guess I could drive to Montreal and
have the doctor sign the new booklet?
Oh yes, I'm also carrying around an
"additional privileges card" as well.
I have quite a wad of paper for all this,
and I'm not even sure if it's even valid.

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
I think there's a bit of TC-ese somewhere that says, yes, you have to carry both until the old medical is replaced by a new one in the new document.
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
This shouldn't be so confusing.. but alas TC's language is...
If your verifier has known you for more than 2 years, and is a "Canadian Passport holder", you only need his/her passport number written there, but what about yours? Does the applicant put their passport # anywhere or have to provide a copy?
I'm specifically referring to Part A, #4, as seen on the instructions: http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/wwwdocs/Forms/2 ... 6-05_E.pdf
It refers to a document, 'submitted'...

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
The part he's referring to only applies for applicants who are using someone off of the approved list. Like when I do this service as part of my AP privilidges. I have to send in a copy of the supporting document since I have not known most of the applicants for more than two years.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!
Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
Mine expires in August and i'll be away from civilization for float season by May. I tried to get TC to let me renew now so that I don't have to deal with it when i'm away at work but they will only accept your application within 90 days of expiry.
Also they will only mail it to my permanent address so it will get mailed to my house in Calgary where no one will even be. I guess it's stupid of me to think TC would be flexible.

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
Hi People,
I am renewing my TC medical next week in YYZ. As I have been out the country for the past 6 years can I still get the DAME to stamp the old medical certificate? I spoke with TC regarding what I needed to do re: the renewal but was unaware of the new ADB. TC said just get your medical stamped. Also is the medical only valid for 6 months or has the new rules kicked in? Thanks intake

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
I didn't submit my application until about 60 days before expiration oops (March 1st). I was told another 4-6 weeks at the end of Feb for the booklet as the system is pretty backed up. Fork out 80 bucks for the temporary license and medical (Feb 27th). And sure enough my new booklet comes in the mail March 4th. Take it from me and get that application in 90 days before so your not out 80 bucks!

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
I wonder if I should get a temporary medical? I'm80 bucks for the temporary license and medical
not sure if the medical from December 2013 in my
old booklet (which isn't in my new booklet) is valid
or not, because it's in an expired booklet.
The problem is, the medical from Dec 2013 isn't in
the TC computer yet for some reason, otherwise it
would have appeared in my new booklet which was
printed at the end of Feb.
So, even if I apply for a temp medical, it will probably
still only show my previous medical in July. I suppose
when I get ramped next, I can argue that after April 13
I only need a category 1 medical every year, so I'm
good with the new booklet to the end of July 2014, but
I'm screwed after that for CPL/ATPL privileges.
Gosh, this is an awful lot of work. I have no idea if I
have a valid Canadian pilot licence and medical, and
I've been an Authorized Person for 18 years now. I
have no idea how normal people do this.
What a screwup. I guess I'll just fly, carrying this
incredible wad of paper with me, and hope that some
of it is valid enough for the next ramp check. If not,
I guess I'll fax off the usual Request for Review,
Request for Stay and Request for Disclosure to my
old pal Mary at the Tribunal and spend another four
years at the Tribunal, Tribunal Review, Federal Court
and Federal Court of Appeals talking about all this
incredibly stupid paperwork that airplanes can't read
anyways.

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
Every time I cross the border, US Customs asks
to see my pilot licence, medical and aircraft registration.
Canada Customs doesn't ask to see that stuff, much.
For a few years, they were legally required to search
my wallet - a little love tap from my buddies - but I
eventually got that sorted out.
TC knows exactly what I am doing. Daily reports
are filed on the flight activities of me, my family
and friends, complete with photographs and
descriptions of date/time/place. The radio frequencies
are monitored and recorded - there's a shiny new
VHF antenna for that.
I think that driving in a golf cart around each
airplane after it starts and after it lands, taking
photographs of the occupants is a little over the
top, personally and something of a safety hazard,
but my opinion has not been consulted on that
particular form of harrassment.

But you're such a likable guy... Why would anyone harass you like that?

Rest easy.Keep the current Booklet until you have received and reviewed the new Booklet. Due to licensing processes, the new Booklet may not show up-to-date licensing or medical certificate information.
If any residual validity period exists, keep the current Booklet along with the new Booklet to provide proof of meeting your licensing and medical requirements.
BTW does golf-cart guy read Avcanada, too?

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
Hello there AvCanada,
I recently had to deal with this and thought my experiences might help others that can be caught by this! Unfortunately I fell into the 5 year expiry trap (so used to just doing my medical each year which happens in May), my book expired on April 1st, I found this out on the night of April 4th (Friday) so I was unable to contact Transport to get any concrete answers. I was going to need my license all valid at least near the end of the month perhaps earlier. I started researching what I could on the internet and this is when the panic set in after reading various stories and seeing the lead time needed by Transport (20 to 40 business days, WTF!).
So after a weekend of doing nothing, Monday morning I found myself at my local Transport Canada office located beside the Vancouver airport. I had already gotten a new photo taken and filled out the ADB renewal form. I spoke with a lady at the front who was quite polite about the entire issue; I was relieved to know that I was not the only one and this has been an ongoing issue. I explained that my booklet had already expired. She mentioned that she could not process any sort of temporary license at that office, and she asked a few questions about what I needed the temp license for, I said for personal use and perhaps for work/job offers/interviews the like. She then accepted my response and made a call to the downtown Vancouver office to help schedule an appointment for me the next day (Tuesday) to get a temp license and submit my renewal. Okay, not too bad I was thinking, they were still willing to issue a temp license after my book was expired.
Tuesday morning now, I have made my way to the downtown Vancouver secret lair of Transport. I then went in for my appointment where I was happy to receive my temporary CPL (A) license for a nominal fee of $40, it was just one of the blue paper licenses that we all used to have instead of the fancy passport style book. I was instructed to keep the temp paper license with my old ADB as it still held my medical valid. I was then told it would be at least 2 weeks for my new ADB to be delivered. Well Success! I was all valid again and my mind was at rest.
Jump ahead just ONE week since I officially submitted my renewal, and my new ADB showed up in the mail. That was the real surprise in all this, Transport Canada actually surpassed their normal service time by 400%, who would have guessed that.
TL;DR - ADB expired April 1st, not the only one, visit TC 7th, then 8th, be polite, get temp license pay $40, submit renewal, told to wait at least 2 weeks, get new ADB in 1 week.

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
I can't believe some of you are willing to shell out more money for a temp licence from TC, after it is TC who has screwed you out of having a licence in the first place. If through your own error you missed the renewal is one thing, but if you have done everything right and their bureaucracy has taken longer than the advertised 6 weeks, screw em. Fly without it. The plane doesn't know you don't have it, and if you're ramped you can honestly tell them you have done your due diligence and are waiting for them to get there own asses in gear.
The only three things a wingman should ever say: 1. "Two's up" 2. "You're on fire" 3. "I'll take the fat one"
Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
I sent mine in by registered mail (they got it on Mar 13) and it was in my mailbox on April 10. But maybe I just got lucky.
Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
My adb was going to expire on April 24th so I gathered the required documentation, got a neighbor who had a valid canadian passport to sign as the guaranteure & put it in the mail registered for Vancouver. In less than 2 weeks I had my new adb & it has my medical expiry in it & correct.I though they did a great job for me.

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
Best is to start with a call to the agency that issued the document. They should know exactly how to renew.

Print the application, fill it out, sign in the box without touching the edges, get passport photos, have photos and application signed by someone who knows you and has a passport, mail it to transport canader, wait.

Exactly, it's not that confusing.
I just had to re-do mine not too long ago. I got a new ADB in 2 weeks, valid for 10 years, just like the new Canadian passport. It had my most recent medical date stamped on it as well. Maybe just got lucky, but Transport has been very good to me over my last many years of flying.
I do feel bad for the people who's ADB expires and they only figure it out a few months later.
It is a sad plight, but I don't think it's fair to blame transport if they take their own sweet time processing those applications.
"You dun messed up A-Aron"
And worse, complain that they made you pay 40$ for a temp cert. I'm sure that for the few months your temp cert is valid, you probably make a lot more than 40 bucks to feed your family.
