Parking pigs
Please explain to me where on an busy aerodrome with ramp space sufficient to park side by each. Some white tie weeny insists on parking in the middle on an angle, blocking other aircraft
Re: Parking pigs
Could be similar to parking your car like a selfish buffoon.
I think it is important to let go your anger, some people have difficulties expressing.

The one that blows my mind is the type of person that will pull in between two aircraft that are clearly from the same company, find a set of chocks and tiedowns waiting for him, and use them without any thought as to why they might be there. I've untied more private airplanes in the last few years than I care to count.

In some cases, lack of airmanship. In others, they really don't realize they're doing it. Honestly. It's not "taught" so some don't get it. Kind of like modern high school grads don't know how many inches there are in a foot. I've found that some of these young guys are totally receptive to a chat about parking. Some really didn't know they were doing it wrong. Rather than complaining about it, approach the offenders (politely) and "suggest" a different procedure. It works.

Re: Parking pigs
Its not that, its just a lack of care and consideration. By the time people get to flying airplanes, you won't be able to beat it into them. And I mean it when I say beat it into them, because only the FISR method of attitude adjustment seems to work here.In some cases, lack of airmanship. In others, they really don't realize they're doing it.
There's a general "me first" attitude that pervades the world which is really unfortunate. Some people will step over their own mother to get a closer parking spot at the mall, or a closer tie down spot to the parking lot. You know, because that giant pilot bag they have is heavy to walk to the taxi.

You're correct of course. I was trying to soften it up a bit, but most are just A Holes.Shiny Side Up wrote:Its not that, its just a lack of care and consideration. Yeah, I'd like to see you untie my airplane because you don't think my park job is up to your standards or god forbid I stole YOUR precious spot.... We'd have a little chat.

Re: Parking pigs
I think what he is refering to is pilots who park between several airplanes in tie downs belonging to a company.....such as a flying school.
It used to happen to me, one would think that the name of the school on the chocks would be a clue that they are property owned by someone else......but there are people out there that have no respect for anything.
If I own the tie downs and the chocks and the parking area and did not give you permission to use them I can't take them if I want to?

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Re: Parking pigs
What kind of shit would a person be in if some yahoo parked his airplane in your spot, you moved it, tied it down to what you thought were adequate tie-downs and the wind blew it over.
What would happen if you tied your airplane down properly in your marked tie-down spot and some yahoo just more or less abandoned his/her airplane in front of or beside your airplane and the wind blew his or her airplane into yours.
I know that if someone parked in my paid for car parking lot in front of my townhouse, the city parking authority cannot come and have it towed.
Now what if I was marshalled into a parking spot by the FBO's ramp people and some yahoo, not marshalled in, parked behind me and did close to a full power runup or break away thrust and damaged my airplane. Who would be responsible for damages. Has anyone ever seen something like this happen?
Have you ever seen anyone park their airplane with the tail pointed in the open hangar doorway, start up and do a runup? I have seen it happen many times. I think I did it once or twice but never did a runup, just started up and taxied away. Since there was no damage, box of donuts said "Sorry".
But what if some yahoo did that and your airplane was in that hangar and was damaged.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Yes, yes we would. It might not turn out the way you'd imagine though.. Cat, In your scenario, it would be a dick move for me to do what you suggested. And I would deserve you telling me, even in your best newfie vocabulary, that I am in the wrong and would apologize. But to untie my AC, moving it and risking damage without me knowing it would be equally dickish.

Re: Parking pigs
I have three different types, parked side by side, all in company colors. If I come back from a flight and someone has parked in the spot I was using, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt about not realizing it was the spot I normally occupy. But if said pilot has also used my tie-downs and chocks, you can bet your ass I will be untying it and using those chocks and tiedowns on my own aircraft. I am not in the business of providing tie-downs to people that are too stupid to put 2 and 2 together. If you park in my spot and use your own tie downs, I'll make due for a day or two until you leave.. Finley wrote:Cat, In your scenario, it would be a dick move for me to do what you suggested. Pretty sure cat is simply saying he would retrieve his "Stolen Tiedowns"
Re: Parking pigs
That's funny because if you are parked on private property they are within rights to tow you.oldtimer wrote:

Cat and I are both saying that. I don't know if Cat has, but I have and will again. If you have a problem with it, my contact is all over the airplanes parked all around you.rigpiggy wrote:Pretty sure cat is simply saying he would retrieve his "Stolen Tiedowns"

Re: Parking pigs
If you turn towards the airplane you're parking beside, you don't spray him with prop wash (stones and sand) and you will end up closer to him, taking up less space.
Turn away from him, you spray him and leave too much space between you. Space that can't be used, and is wasted.
This is airmanship.
So is NOT untying somebody else's airplane under almost all circumstances. If it ain't yours, don't FAAK with it. Period.
Parking pads....leave the main pad for the sked. Use the other pad. You might as well. Nobody does. Lots of knobs block it so nobody can use it....so, I'm using it! It's there to park on.
If I'm first dog at the party, I park in a corner.

Re: Parking pigs
I don't know, if someone stole my tie downs to secure their airplane, I got no problems taking them back. Not going to leave my airplane in harms way because someone else is thoughtless. Truth be told though, usually the parking pigs we refer to in this thread don't usually tie their airplanes down. You see these guys get out, bee line for whatever ride is waiting, leave the doors flapping in the wind. My personal favorite are the guys who abandon a machine in front of the fuel pumps, disappear for the day, then get upset that you didn't fill them up while they were gone.So is NOT untying somebody else's airplane under almost all circumstances. If it ain't yours, don't FAAK with it. Period.
Speaking of rides and parking, people are as bad with cars. If you're going to be flying for a while, don't be a dick and leave your car parked right in front of a hangar door for the ten days you're gone. So everyone else has to get around you, or in some cases just can't access stuff at all. Same goes for access gates. Seems like there's always some dipshit that parks in front of that thing when I have a load of fuel arrive.
While we're on this subject, brief your passengers about what's cool and not cool on a ramp. Ramp areas are't good places for stray children or dogs, or adults who shouldn't be in public unsupervised.

Re: Parking pigs
From the other side, I'm always amazed how poorly labelled ramps are. Often been very anxious, at a new airport trying to find somewhere to park - that does not look like someone else's spot, or is in the way of fuel. Once flew into London for lunch, found a spot outside the restaurant, only to have a flight instructor come and tell me to move as it was a school spot. No signs....so moved it over to the FBO ramp and hoped they would not be upset I was not buying fuel. But then I mostly assume tiedown spots are owned, or at least have to be paid for. Lindsay was interesting once finding a space that did not look like someone's or block the fuel truck. Mostly I find a quiet corner, and hoep for the best. Always worrying when noone else is around to ask.

Re: Parking pigs
Some signage at airports for parking spots wouldnt be a bad thing when there is no lineman.
How about a no parking sign if you dont want someone to use your spot.
