Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
Just wondering if anyone has had a new RAIC application lately (Last few months) and what the wait time was?
Cheers

Thanks. That's not bad, just did did it this week and was told it could be 12 weeks because of the holidays. I haven't been out of the country or have any work/living gaps however.

They told me 4-6 months for my initial application, but being born here and no questionable gaps makes that considerably shorter I think.
Re: Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
Just talked to a coworker who submitted the paperwork for a YYZ RAIC renewal in August and still waiting for his new RAIC. From past experience my company recommends starting the process in YYZ at least 6 months before your RAIC expires or you may end up with a yellow RAIC.
Re: Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
6 months? Really?
Longest wait I've had is two weeks. YYCs pass office won't even let you apply for renewal greater than 90 days in advance.

Took about 6 weeks out of the YYC office a couple months ago. That was with plenty of time out of the country, never having a RAIC, and lots of gaps in my history.

6 Months from CYWG, and the people there had to call in.
Re: Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
3 weeks in YWG recently, it was just a renewal though so that probably made it easier
Re: Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
YYC is around 3 months right now.DanWEC wrote:Just wondering if anyone has had a new RAIC application lately (Last few months) and what the wait time was?

Quick question, if you're renewing a RAIC are you required to provide the TSC & the RAIC Application on the first appointment, or just the TSC signed by your signing authority?
Also, does the YYZ Permit Office validate parking?
Thanks.

Re: Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
longer to get a raic nowadays than to screen a Syrian refugee!!
disgusting.
disgusting.
Re: Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
You mean longer than someone who is only crossing the national border and most of whom will be living with a sponsor family, have little to no belongings, and is fleeing civil war?
Compared with someone who might be applying for a job as a rampie, who has likely had a long, long time to culminate any nefarious designs and wants access to the airside of an airport?
I see your point, and I'm not going to get drawn into any debate on this can of worms. I think the 3 month processing time is a bag of donkey dicks but I'm not in love with the comparison.

I'll answer my own question for the next person that is curious. Just the TSC for the first appointment, and yes they will validate your parking.Whisperjet wrote:Quick question, if you're renewing a RAIC are you required to provide the TSC & the RAIC Application on the first appointment, or just the TSC signed by your signing authority?

Calgary actually puts an artificial expiry date on your raic (6 months prior to actual hard expiry). So when you go in you get a Red tag back as opposed to a yellow escort required. When your new pass comes in (renewed pass comes in 4-5 months later) you go pick it up and Bobno's your uncle!
Cheers.....Jim

I've been waiting 4 months in YUL. Nothing yet.
Re: Anyone had a RAIC pass lately? Wait time?
I am at 7 months now. RIDICULOUS. I think its faster to clear a Syrian refugee...Black_Tusk wrote:I've been waiting 4 months in YUL. Nothing yet.

took me 4.5 month to get mine in yyt. Apparently they have a huge backlog right now, and expect for 3 month plus wait minimum.

Hey!
I previously held an aircrew RAIC out west. The clearance on that RAIC was valid until 2019. I went to YUL for the RAIC " transfer" / new company.
When they printed off my pass in YUL I was surprised to see it was" escort required." I queried the access control personnel on this as I had a valid clearance. Apparently, my TC security clearance isn't valid in Eastern Canada ! They explained it could be a few months before obtaining my red pass despite having one and turning the old RAIC into YVR access control two weeks ago.
I've held Aircrew RAIC's across Western Canada and have never had this issue..if your clearance is valid you get a new red pass right away!
What the hell is the point of of a TC clearance if its not valid across CANADA!!! Also, how is it that the airports don't " talk" to eachother so to speak.
Furthermore, they won't allow you to call and check on the status of the RAIC. You need to come into the office in- person! I'm on my second trip now from Weatern Canada.
Can comeone explain this to me? What is the rationale here? Has anyone had similar issues?

Here is a story for ya.
Flew with a great guy, ex/retired RCMP on his second career. He was issued a yellow escort required pass. And this, after many many months.
Is it me, or would you figure that a national cop would have gone through all of the screening required?
Escorted by me, a humble career airplane pilot.
Go figure.....It's more than just a backlog, these people have lost the plot. So it's not you, it's them.
True story.

To lose something you first must have had it..It's more than just a backlog, these people have lost the plot.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Not every policeman is upright, not even every retired policeman. Also they will have years of close contact with a lot of unsavoury characters for whom someone on the inside of a security cordon is a very valuable resource.confusedalot wrote:Here is a story for ya.

You, on the other hand, are far less likely to know anyone who could blackmail or bribe you nor do you have a possibly rich history of indiscretions that could be used against you.
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.

Going one step further, how many people are just simply breaking the "security" rules in their day-to-day working duties while they wait for their RAIC pass?Cat Driver wrote:To lose something you first must have had it..It's more than just a backlog, these people have lost the plot.
